'99 Ibiza Cupra 8v Oil temp sensor

DEAR ALL

Hi I'm new here and the wife and I have bought a 1999 very YELLOW Ibiza GTI Cupra Sport 2.0 litre, 8 Valve, as our ahem.. family car!

Please could anyone tell us if the 8 Valve version of the Ibiza Cupra has an Oil temperature sensor on the engine?
I ask because we have the trip computer and all the functions work on it, apart from the Oil Temp, which would be nice to have! The Oil Temperature sensor doesn't give a reading, its just blank with dashes on the display. We drove it around for a while, to try and get the engine warm enough (according to the handbook, it only reads from above 50C) but after half an hour we still had no reading.

Please can anyone help? Thanks again.:)

from memory there are 2 sensors, temp & pressure?

not seen mine for a while so can't look

yes, as you said, scroll through the MF display temp is in there somewhere.
only reads above 50, normal running around the 90-95 mark?, been a long time since i've driven mine.

not too sure whether it has a thermostat in the cooler, as per the Rad? or it's permanently open circuit, maybe stuck open if so?

assume the engine temp is normal?

Yes engine temp fine. Do you have the 8 valve or 16v? Do you know whether either are particularly rare cars?

I think it's a single wire poking out there - but it's been a while.

That's temperature anyway. Pressure is somewhere else IIRC

If it is - the wiring is pretty crappy and may well have kinked or degraded over the years

Hi

Had a wee lookie today and I've found a loose wire with a connector on, near to where I think the Oil temp sensor should be, but there's nothing to plug it into!?

There's three 'points' shown in your pic, where the plugs are, but one's got nothing in it. Going to let Seat have a look tomorrow, hopefully and hope they can shed some light on it. Hope this makes sense! Thanks again.

The unconnected plug, is meant to be. I gave up looking for something to plug it into, but it was always present on all four 6K Ibiza's of various engine

Unlikely

I'd find yourself a good local VW specialist. SEAT won't have a clue as it's not a recent model

Thanks again, I must say, Seat didn't sound too clued up when asked!:)

Have bought new oil temp sender, hope an pray it works!

On a slightly different subject, I have also bought a new standard fit, front spoiler lip to fit under the bumper. Only thing is, its come only with clip rather than the bolts needed! Any clues?

Hi Mork

Just got the oil temp sender today. Looking at your pic, please could you tell me which way the single wire you mention above is facing? Ie: is it at the front of the base that its on, facing the cars front or the back?

Also what does the other wire (connector) do? Thanks again!:)

It's at the front, facing up. Right by the oil filter IIRC

Thanks again. Geez I have fitted the Oil temp sender and bad news for me, no go! Nadda, nowt! Any clues as to why my friends? All it did was reset the figures for journey mileage, mpg etc but no oil reading. Went into town today with it and must have been reading well over 50c but nothing..

Old Un's said 'not too sure whether it has a thermostat in the cooler, as per the Rad? or it's permanently open circuit, maybe stuck open if so?'

Would this be an easy fix if its the stuck open circuit or crappy wiring...probably not I'm guessing?

Do you think a Bosch service centre would be a good place to try and fix this? Thanks again guys, really appreciate your help!
