Tried searching for this but nothing came up.

After a slightly unnerving moment yesterday on my way home approaching a roundabout I put my foot on the brake pedal and started to slow down, the pedal then seemed to give way momentarily, the car jolted forward a little then the brakes gripped again. It found a quiet road and did a couple of brake checks and all seemed fine.

Did a Carista diagnostic today and the error code 16401 came up. (Crankshaft/ Camshaft Position Correlation Sensor)

Anyone know what it might be? google has been to no avail.

A few others came up to;

Power Steering 19716 (Exhaust Bank 1/2 Lambda probes before kat exchanges)
Central Electronics 197644 & 203016
Adaptive Cruise Control (Yaw Rate Sensor (G202))

Any ideas??

standard procedure would be clear the codes - unless you know when they were last read/cleared - drive it for a week or two and read them again.

Yes I have cleared the errors but I was concerned due to the scenario. Approaching a roundabout on a dual carriageway and the brake pedal not working is brown trouser time!

Take it to the dealer/ or some other brake specialist, the brakes are one of the most important safety features of a car ... do not risk it.

How much did the pedal give way? Did it feel like you were sliding or skidding during this problem before the brakes gripped again? You could have possibly hit a patch of oil of something. As others have advised, its worth getting the brakes checked for safety sake anyway.

I hadn't considered that to be honest as it was a nice hot, dry day. That's not to say that isn't the case though.

It was very momentary, provably less that half a second. It was fine afterwards when I did a couple of brake checks and has been fine since

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I have just been looking into this.

I scanned my car today and had the same 16401 fault code come up. After some research, it seems Carista throws this up as a crankshaft / camshaft position sensor failure, when in fact 16401 on VCDS is to show whether the TPMS (tyre pressure) system has been tripped.

Since last scanning my car, I have had a puncture and the TPMS came on. Scanning the car today I got the 16401 code, but this will be relating to my previous puncture. Cleared the code and it has gone.
