Advice for a Cupra R newby!

Hi all,

I recently became the proud new owner of a what I believe to be one of the finest Cupra R's and just wanted to say hi and a big thanks to 'nibbles', the original owner of this fine example who introduced me to the site! From what I understand, this car has had the following upgrades:

Stage 2 revo remap
Upgraded air induction kit and filter
Dump valve
Full exhaust system
Rear strut brace
275BHP

I'm after some advice as I'm not sure about the following:

1. What type of oil do these run on, semi or fully synthentic? Does it need topping up in between servicing?
2. How often do these need an oil service, i.e. in between general services or annually?
3. is it worh installing a turbo timer?
3. I live in North East London so looking for a reputable seat specialist for servicing and parts?

Any other advice on how to keep these running at their optimum would be much appreciated. I will of course check the website diary as I'm keen to attend upcoming shows/events but would appreciate hearing of any other events that you may be aware of.

Thanks in advance any help or advice you can give this novice Cupra R member!

Hello mate welcome to the forum, nice little amount of upgrades you have there... I hope to be on the modding band wagon soon, just waiting for the insurance to run out so i can take her off the road for a month and mod her in one hit...
1. I always use full synthetic 5 40 if i recall, and i always check my oil levels once or twice a month as it only takes seconds to do and if it need a minor top up i just do it...
2. i tend to either change the oil every year or every 10k miles which ever comes first.
3. I feel turbo timers have its pros n cons, i personally drive like an old git for the last mile of my journey or just sit in my car and wait for a minute before turning my car off and i tend to start the car up and wait for the oil temp to start moving up before my journeys begin...
3? (again) lol...as for specialist ive learnt car mechanics from my dad and what ever he cant do i take to my mates garage so this is the only question i cant really answer for you.

hope you enjoy your car mate, where abouts in north east london you from??

Hi Bobby,

Thanks for the prompt reply...was expecting one so soon! Yeh, I was lucky to find this little gem which puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it. The original owner is a real enthusiast who took it to lots of shows and spared no expense with the upgrades, I got the distinct impression that this was his pride and joy...he even regretted selling it!

I used to own a Honda (VTEC) which often needed topping up with oil, hence wanted to be sure if Cupras do the same. I've already been warned these need a minute or two to warm up and cool down but it's tricky getting used to it as i've made the mistake of turning it off before letting it cool down, but i'm getting used to it now. It's just annoying when you pull up at a petrol station or if I'm in a hurry.

I'm in Enfield so if you see a black Cupra wizzing around, that's probably me! Where are you from?

Please do let me know if you hear of any Cupra shows or meets!
