Altea instrument cluster

Has anyone swapped out a speedo cluster in an Altea - either due to repair, or as an upgrade to the full size screen?

I'm a bit confused as to how the part numbering works for these, my current clocks end 923A from 03/2007 with a red screen.

I've also noticed that some are compatible with the Leon, and others are not.

Does anyone know if the IMMO system changed at any point?

I have software to extract my SKC, but obviously would like to know if later (up to 2009) clusters had the same type of immobiliser.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have ordered a used cluster.

although I can't see any logical numbering system for the parts, I'm fairly positive the retrofit will go ok. Shall post back an update if anyone is interested.

Talking to myself here...

I went from

Only difference between my Altea clocks and the Leon ones I got was the time/mileage knob, which easily swapped over.

How easy and how much?? Presume needs coding etc software to finish the job off. Can the new MF screen add bluetooth functionality (phonebook etc) via a suitable receiver or is that still a no-no?

New clocks do look rather better I must say.

Cost me £50 for the clocks and I already had Commander. Will cost significantly more to get someone to do it.
All three keys work and the mileage is back to exactly what it was.

Sorry I know nothing about compatibility or what clusters suits what car, I took a chance and it worked for me.
Should work with OEM double din functions. Going to mess around as I don't have the convenience menu yet.

Can't edit or delete above post....

Cost me £50 for the clocks and I already had Commander. Will cost significantly more to get someone to do it, and even more to get the dealer to do it with a new cluster.

It is not plug and play as your car will be immobilised once clocks are swapped over, but isn't that difficult with the right cable, software and procedure.

Sorry I know nothing about compatibility or what clusters suits what car as I am very new to SEAT, I took a chance and it worked for me. I noticed there are tens of different part numbers and can't see a pattern.

Should work with OEM double DIN functions.

I realised if I hold in a MFA stalk button it brings up the convenience menu options. I now have the green cruise control symbol when activated. Also it brings up the audio option so if you have an RNS510 or even the factory HU then track/nav/radio data would show up here.

This is great, would love to do it to our '07 Stylance. What age & trim level of Leon did you get them from?

Thanks

No idea sorry, they came from a breakers. I mass emailed many VAG breakers on ebay and got a hit with one, took a chance.
Trim level won't matter as long as it has a large red screen.

Just ensure you look at cars with a red screen, not white screen. The rear plugs are different so it's easy to tell.

Some extra pics to show nav/radio/bluetooth functionality with a suitable HU...

I assume you have the half height clocks like my 'before'? Then no you'll need the full height (MFA+) clocks to access convenience menu's.

I've done this retrofit to a few cars including my old mk5 and have to say it's one of the favourite mods I've carried out...and I've done a few! You won't regret it.

To be honest it's all electrical bar a few torx screws. You can quite easily immobilise your car. If reading the link below makes no sense to you I'd recommend getting someone to do it for you. There'll be someone around you with the cable that'd do it for beer money.

Ensure you're looking at clocks with red screens (see ebay 321055319773), facelift/white ones are different (see ebay 180702329899).

Read this http://furmanka.blogspot.co.uk/2008/02/mk5-mfd-plus-hi-line-cluster.html

You'll only really need VCDS to clear faults or reprogram your cluster. An unofficial Vag Commander will grab your immo data and let you correct mileage.

Yeh I saw those, the references I gave were to see the difference in the plkug on the rear. If they're off a 2006 they'll probably fit.

This looks smart, how does the silver trim come off the front off the clocks to access the torx screws. Am going to fit a parrot kit with the little screen and thinking of mounting it on the trim around the clocks.

Cheers

I can't really remember exactly, you'll have to drop the steering wheel and start removing the plastic cowl with the leather hood then it all becomes clearer.
Beware on the left (inside) there is a well hidden screw, that I snapped the tab off, and it now rattles.
