Altea Speaker up grades.

Hi guys,

I have been reading up on this speaker upgrade lark for my 2007 Leon TDI FR. I have to say I had a 54 plate mk1 Leon SE and the sound in that rocked. I was so dissapointed when I picked up my new car to hear the speakers are crap. In fact they are worse than that.

I have a question relating to the upgrade - Why did you not choose to go down the component speaker road and replace both the tweeters and mids ? I really liked the balance of the sound in the mk1 Leon ! Whack Leftfield - Open up and put the volume up to 30 (Thumbs Up !!!!)

Also how did you decide on which speakers to go for ? Was it simply cost ? I plan on replacing all four speakers and not bothering with a sub as I need the boot space for work :-S

Oh and on another tangent the boot space is significantly smaller on the FR vs the mk1 SE.

Apart from the above I love this car

I went for components, abit of a pain to remove the door trim! but sounds goooood! I went for Alpine all around with an 8" sub sealed box custom made under the false floor!

How much of a pain was removing the door trims ?

Also have you got more details on speaker type + cost + time to mod ?

The door speakers are 6.5inch, its up to you which type i went for DDDrive Alpine components but then again i also replaced the radio for a 2din navi!
Door trim removal was ok, just remove the trim around the handle, remove all visable screws including the one under the door speaker. pull the door trip from the bottom untill all clips are unclipped and lift up over the window lip. Unclip the connectors and Bobs your uncle!

Can anyone help me please ? I am trying to remove the door trims but can not seem to figure it out - I have removed the four torx screws but it aint budging !

Just installed these speakers and ran the crossover from the original woofer wires - Does anyone know if there are crossovers already installed in the Leon Mk2 - The new pioneers are better but they kick out less bass than the old original ones :-S

It's official I have given up with this - After breaking the drivers side door trim and installing the pioneers - I have just called a company to get them to upgrade my ICE. It's going to cost but in fairness I haven't the time to mess about.

I know this defeats the object but...
