Altea TDi Engine Cover

Hi,
I am in process of buying an Altea 140 TDi B & W special edition-there is no cover on the engine and the dealer advises Seat don't fit them anymore. Is this merely a cost saving exercise or is there some technical reason ?I presume you can purchase one if required?

Cheers Dale. The B & W stands for "Black & White" Special Edition-Black Magic metallic paintwork and light grey leather interior, also has other goodies -heated seats, bluetooth,ESP,rear parking sensors,17" alloys,6 speed box etc. There also appears to be a similar special edition of the Toledo, "Black",it has black leather interior.

Does it have sound proofing under the bonnet? I have my sound proofing in the living room bleaching off all the mould that keeps appearing. Whish they had designed it better so it doesnt get wet when car just sitting there.

I've looked under the bonnet of my B&W and it's a bit different from the pictures on the autotitre site. On step 1 where you have to screw the torx screws onto the indicated points, the bottom two points screw into brackets seperate from the metal manifold bit. On my engine this bit isn't metal but looks like a plastic cover with the screw holes moulded into it. Will the cover still fit and anyone know how much a UK SEAT dealer will charge to supply and fit one? How much does it add to the soundproofing?

My dealer ordered the engine cover but when it arrived it would not fit !He states that there is no engine cover actually listed as a replacement part for the 140 2.0 TDi engine.Does anyone know if this is correct or can I get one from a VW dealer and change the badge?

Sorry, Westfaliaman,

but as almost noone over in the UK forum ever mentions his car's specifications (such as modelyear or engine id number or equipping) it's often hard to tell, if the given hints & parts will really fit and meet the needs.

The post to the partnos, my above link is referring to, is dated back to Feb '06, and the included information might even be weeks/months older.

So if you have a brand new Altea, your dealer might be right in stating, that the current model will have no replacement part for the engine cover, as it isn't produced with it any more.

But nevertheless it might be possible to retrofit an earlier generation of the cover ... and I have found another partnumber for a cover, that was used in the early modelyear 2007:

03G 103 967 F ... (central cover)

... which comes together with another part
03G 103 907 (A) ... (fringe / "A" depending on the engine id)

... maybe you'll need the SEAT sign as well
5P0 103 940
... plus such a spout
03G 103 638 A

If you'll risk a second go, ask your dealer for those parts ...

Thanks Klaus,
My car is brand new with a BKD engine number,2.0 TDi 140bhp,the engine oil filler cap is central on the cylinder head.
My dealer had actually ordered the part number you suggested 03G 103 967 F but this has the oil filler to one side.He has looked at other options but can't find a suitable one.
Cheers,
Sam

Hi Westfaliaman,

hmmm ... then the cover mentioned in my former post might be useless for you as well ... :(

It has the filler cap on the left and the SEAT-sign on the right - almost symmetrical.

Sorry ... but then ... leave the hood closed when cruising ... ;)

Good news!!
Finally got the correct engine cover, the one my dealer ordered from his system was wrong so I asked him to order part no 03G 103 925 BF (the part no originally supplied by Klaus in his first posting) even though his system could not recognise this as the right part.
Only needed to screw on 3 locating lugs which we took off other cars in the showroom.
Looks the part and engine slightly quieter.
Thanks Klaus.

Interesting - is this just the cover or does it include the foam soundproofing as well? How much was it?
Any chance of some pictures as this is something I am seriously considering doing?
