Last month our boot lock failed meaning we could not open the boot. They are now electronically operated so there is no key lock. This was replaced under warranty.

Then on Friday it failed again. Same problem. So back it goes to be replaced for a second time. Dodgy patch of locks perhaps? Also, did you know you can open the boot from the inside using the key? i did'nt until the mechanic showed me.

Has the rear was wipe pipe popped off? I found this used to happen with the Mk4 Golf, but usually when it was v.cold. The water runs down and over the lock and it then stops working.

i checked the rear wiper and it is fine.

The lock was replaced for the 2nd time in a month on friday. IThey also checked the electronics \ wiring in case that was the cause.

I will see what heppens.

well guess what? the boot lock has failed for the 3rd time. less than 2 weeks since it was replaced for the 2nd time. i am currently awaiting a call back from the dealer.

What is the best approach here? We need the car as well have a young child and pram to ferry around. This is now getting on my nerves. any ideas>

Hi,
just a presumption:
sure it's the boot lock itself ... or is there a chance, the ECU might be the defevtive part?

Read a post in our forum today dealing with broken injector nozzles (replaced 4 times) ... according to the diagnosis system ... now the dealer found out, the ECU itself was causing the trouble ...

So maybe you'll have to check for the control unit

Out new Altea (delivered yesterday) now doesn't register the boot as being closed. Consequently, the alarm goes off and when you drive it the "boot open" warning "pings" at you the whole time. Leasing company has been notified, and they need to contact dealer, who wil - no doubt - suggest I take time out to go and see them so that they can run a diagnostic....

i have had a sh*t boot lock problem since day 1. It has been fixed 3 times and replaced 1 time under warranty. Still plays up but dealer fails to find a problem everytime i take it in.
I look like a pl*nker, but have been in 3 times so far and each time "nothing wrong, sir".

I will keep going until it gets replaced. Sometimes it refuses to lock with the C/L - which means someone can get in my car by lifting the handle. It sets the alarm off, but they are in the car without breaking anything.
I now double lock it ALL the time. I dont trust locks that are temperamental.

i dont know how it works really, but I recon its the solenoid that opens the lock, not the lock itself. I recon they only change the lock mechanism and thats not the bit at fault.

i have had both changed twice (under warranty) and it failed for a 3rd time.

i make sure i take it to the dealer when the lock is 'stuck' so they can see exactly the problem i have.

Dropped the car off this morning (car won't accept the boot is closed, and so the alarm goes off and the "boot open" warning bleeps when we drive it). Just got a call saying it is the lock and they don't have one in stock. I'm going to have to pick the car up this afternoon and drop it off again on Monday. have been promised it will be fixed by Mon lunchtime.
