Rich: Did you ever get this wired up without an external box? I'm in the same position. I have swapped my old CD changer Alana for a newer MP3 one with Aux button.

They looked identical at the back so I wonder if I still need this Connect2 type box to create the signal to use the Aux In as it is an actual aux in and not just the left and right channels of the CD changer.

Oops, I didn't realise there were 2 Rich's in this thread lol. I meant about retro-fitting an Aux-In into the Alana.

I'm planning to make up a lead next week at work which is just a 2 channel 3.5mm audio jack going into pins 19 and 20 on the back of the headunit so i'll post up the results if it doesnt get done already by then

Excellent - I was thinking about trying to coble together a wire - but decided it will most likely fall out without a decent fitting connecter... Been searching around and found this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GOLD-SMART-CA...hash=item370004081459&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318

From the look of the wires, left right and ground in the correct place and the shape of the connecter looks like it might do the job?

Also - when removing an alana radio should you unplug the cars battery on anything else?

I've seen similar adapters but they seem to cost more...if it just a case of sending the audio and there is no control signal needed then that looks like it should do the job :)

You don't need to disconnect the battery first, but make sure you have the radio code or you wont be able to turn it back on!

Yeah i "think" that blue plug is 1/3 of the normal unit three that plugs into our cars at work as its a standard type of iso connector.
That ebay link is exactly the same as I was planning to make up so if it does work, then that ebay thing would work fine although you might need to change where the pin locations inside that blue plug to match up with 19 and 20 on the HU

Thanks - I think I might chance it and order that cable. Maybe g8rvn could confirm if he's sure his adapter will work - seen the back of a genuine >06 fitted aux alana? My only evidence from my trawls is this video which seems to shown a simple cable going in - but you can't see the connecter...

Edit - Ah thanks g8rvn.

yeah i woudnt take my word for it though on that blue connector, it definitely looks like it should fit and i would imagine that its would be the standard iso connector.
Being part of the VAG group, Bentley will most likely use the same parts as all the other group so i'll see if I get chance to throw a lead together in the morning and give it a go at the weekend.

Unfortunatley I dont have the mp3 version so i'm going to have to speak nicely to my mate who has...

If i can get a part number or something, and it works, this type of lead could cost next to nothing for people to make themselves

wow, this is abit of an old thread! The cable i ended up getting was a plug just like the blue one there which then connected to a black box with phono sockets built in, it also had an eart wire connected to the box. Its worked perfectly for over a year through the cd6 button. cost about £25 delivered from ebay.

I tried connecting just the pins directly to a sound source but it didnt work. You need to fool the head unit into thinking a cd changer is attached.

I think thats just for the non-mp3 stereos tho. The ones with the Aux-In dont need to be fooled as it just connects to a 3.5mm socket normally. There's no way of the stereo knowing if something is connected or not unless there is a switch built into the socket, but I doubt Seat would do something that complicated as it would cost more :p
