yeah, I have an old style alana and one of those leads above with the blue plug on one end and it just plugs into the CD changer plug at the rear of the head unit, you just select the CD6 button and away you go

Can I ask why you are still using the headunit. I am currently installing my system and I will be using an amp to drive the internal speakers and use a USB radio all of which give a vastly superior sound than the standard headunit.

The ebay cable http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GOLD-SMART-CA...hash=item370004081459&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318 worked a treat, didn't even need to swap the pins around. So confirmation that it is the same pins as on the older Mp3 Alana unit, no need to bridge any connections etc, just plug and play...

Whats the sound volume like when using it? I have the older style alana with cd6, and a cable from ebay, and the volume is really low... - have to turn it up to about 40 so that its nice and loud (cack meself when traffic announcements come on as well!:scary:)

Thing is if you are installing a PC in a car it typically has 5.1 sound onboard so using amps you get the best out of the sound system you have.

wolfie......this thread is about using a cable from your CD6 input to enable your mp3 player to go straight into the standard Alana head unit.
It's not about installing a PC in your car, hence why people are still using the headunit.

I'm very interested in this, as I have an Alpine changer in the boot, but would quite happily get rid of it, if I could use my iPod instead. I am quite confused though by all the different descriptions of what is required.

I tried an FM transmitter but took it back as it was pants.

Volume is good, it needs to be a little louder than the Radio/CD but not massively... Might not be the difference between the Alanas with the CD6 or Aux button, could be the MP3 player - I need my 2nd gen Nano at full volume

Could you confirm to me that the red and white (signal) wires go to pins 19 & 20 and the black (earth) goes to pin 18 on the plug?

I've made up a lead at work identical to what you bought but there are two grounds within the changer socket on the alana unit, i'm pretty sure its 18 but just want to make sure

sorry to did up an old one but..

I got this lead, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/****-SMART-CA...hash=item370004081459&_trksid=p3286.m14.l1318

plugged it in and pressed the cd6 button but changer flashes then goes off and the radio goes back to the cd/radio.

its in an 05 car and its an Alana mp3 so what's the deal? :)

does your alana have the button called CD6 or AUX?

i THINK if it says CD6 its not going to work, you still need to fool the headunit into thinking a cd changer is connected. Which means a little black box is needed with a ground connector.

if it says AUX on the button then it should work.

Right dragging up this thread sorry :)

I've got the alana head unit with the 6cd button, the blue smart connector from ebay.

What do I have to do to earth pin 14 as reffered to above, just connect it to some metal or something?

I would like to confirm that the cable bought from ebay will work with the older cd6 alana headunit. You just have to bridge the pin 14 onto the HU cage.

I just used a short length of cable, a small femal spade connector at one end, a circular spade connector going to the screw near to the headunit locator bung.

A little doctoring of the blue connector from ebay, namely removing the separators between pins 14 and 17 and pushing the connector onto it. All neat and tidy then fed the 3.5mm jack end through to the space behind the ashtray. Job done, i should have taken some pictures, though forgot to.

Cheers
Pete
