Awesome GTI Clutch - £625 and worth every penny!

I recently ordered the "heavy duty sprung clutch and flywheel" from Awesome GTI consisting of a single mass clutch and flywheel assembly with a heavy pressure plate to still give it that oem feel.

It is fitted now and seriously wow! Worth every penny especially if you have or are going to remap your car. I'm running 280bhp and 313lb torque and it was the torque that killed my last clutch (oem on 60,000miles)

The clutch pedal is lighter, the engine and the power is more responsive on a general drive - and when I put my foot down - instant power :) I'm a very happy guy right now!! £625 for the part and £280 to fit it... So not cheap but really worth it.

Anyone else bought one of these? I found it was the best and cheapest single mass performance clutch on the market.

Let me know your thoughts

Tempted to get my TDi remapped. However, I am wary due to the stories about the increase power through the clutch. How long did the clutch last for with the performance increase?

Hi Tim,

A quick search on these forums would have brought up the name "Southbend" - have you heard of them? If not, you didn't do much research m8.

If you have, then what made you choose an Awesome GTI single mass instead of a Southbend?

There's a saying that you get what you pay for, and there doesn't seem to be any information on who Awesome GTI are getting to make their new single mass clutches, but you can bet with 99.9% certainty that it's their own brand being made in a cheap factory in China.

Southbend are an American company and their clutches are The Best, bar none.

Like the other guy said - that's a lot of assumptions! Awesomegti are a UK based VAG specialist and have been going for over 20years. Excellent customer service and the clutch is brilliant. I called them and they explained that the clutch and flywheel have been devolved specifically for our engines.
Also if I order from America I will be stung on tax when it comes into the country - and a performance clutch from Sputhbend Clutches is $900 ... So pretty much the same mate.

I choose Awesome GTI as its cheaper then Sachs or any LUK clutch upgrades plus as far as I saw better then any other clutch on the market. This by the way was a carbon clutch AND lightened flywheel set, plus release bearing and new bolts. This was the cheapest and best deal I found for a clutch AND a flywheel so in all honesty I did my research and decided to go for Awesome.

The TDI clutch is stronger due to it having to be able to handle the torque. Mine was on its way out before anyway, but as soon as it was remapped the clutch started slipping more and more as I drove!

A good couple of months it latest but the LCR clutch isn't that good once it's been remapped.

Do you get much chatter with the fly wheel being single mass ? As my clutch is on its way out and have been considering one of these for a month or so

That's quite a few assumptions you've made there mate.

If that's the case, then I look forward to being proved wrong by Awesome GTI, but think about it, where else could they source a strong single mass clutch from so cheap?

They remind me of Technoclutches, which are similar looking and Chinese made....and known for failure...

Dan, a forum is designed for discussion, not so everyone can get on like in a hippy commune.

I don't see you contributing to the discussion, as you've not mentioned anything about clutches, just about me.

The OP said "let me know your thoughts", so I gave them. End of.

A discussion and a pout of view yes - saying that someone is wrong for not doing research (when they actually did) and making false accusations about a companies profile and products - a company who sponsors said forums - that's why he's saying it about you.

I'm mature enough to not take your comments so personally. But make a point and move on

Hi Tim,

You said that you found the Awesome GTI clutch was "the best and cheapest single mass performance clutch on the market." That's what I picked up on, as I know that Southbends are better, and was wondering why you didn't mention your research to do with them in your original post,

I would like to change your statement slightly, to:

"Awesome GTI clutches are the best cheapest single mass performance clutch on the market", in that out of the cheap single mass clutches that are available on the market, the Awesome GTI adaptation seems to be the best.

However, this has not been proven over time, and if they're selling them for £625 then imagine how much they're buying them for, and therefore they must be made in a cheap factory in China, as are the Technoclutch clutches, which look very similar and are sold on eBay as cheap single mass performance clutches.

The Southbend clutches are available from a good UK distributor, so there's no need to import one, and a Southbend truly is the best single mass performance clutch on the market.

That's my point in case, and now I will indeed move on ;)

Point made. Awesome are selling these at an introductory price. I did a lot of research and found that this awesome one offered everything I needed for the best and most reasonable price that was in my budget range.

I was told to stay away from techniclutches and various other companies. I looked at Sachs and LUK too. Also a couple of uk based companies but they were all too expensive for me.

I'm sure the clutches/company you mentioned offer excellent clutches but I just couldn't afford it.

Conclusion - if you are looking for a great and good priced single mass performance clutch and flywheel then go to awesome.
If you have more money and want to buy a higher end clutch then look at Sachs and Southbends clutches - and if you have that money then invest in a new LSD :)

..... Wish I had that money to burn :/ dam mortgage!

That statements way off the mark there buddy. My cars been mapped since 20k miles and it's now on 77k and the standard clutch is still like new with no signs of slipping or wear. Your just must have been goosed to start with.

If you see earlier 2 things mate:
1: my car is running 280bhp and 313lb torque - a lot of torque for a standard oem clutch (and more then your current clutch)
2: I did say that my clutch wasn't in the best state prior to remapping

I was hoping I wouldn't need a new clutch - but unfortunately it did :( a lot of people on here with there LCR's needed new clutches and others (like yourself) are lucky and not needing to replace it!
