They're just **** mate. Nasty recycled fumes being forced back into the engine, mixing with oily breather gases then clogging everything up and causing performance and economy loss.
Keep the egr in place and just disconnect it/disable it, it's always good to keep the asv and it's on the same part as the egr. You can fit the PD130/150 egr with the manifold, it doesn't really cause any restriction and there's no power gains to be made by completely removing it but the asv is very useful in the event of the turbo blowing and the engine running away burning all the oil out the crankcase till it seizes solid.
Couple of places claimed 6 BHP gains with their "race pipe" fitted on the 130 engine but I'm yet to see anyone else make this claim or any concrete proof.
The later engine with an electronic shudder valve has the benefit of being able to remove the egr, cooler and a whole host of untidy pipe work in the process whilst leaving the valve intact and fully operational.
