Hi

I've a 1.9tdi Stylance on order (delivery May/June) and have been looking for more 'economical' phone and mp3 player solutions than Seat's options.

I think the head unit in the Stylance is a Blaupunkt MP3-compatible unit, am I correct?

If so, has anyone tried one of these... http://www.blaupunkt.com/uk/7607545500_main.asp ... and was it compatible?

Looks like the best solution for my needs, but I don't know exactly what model head unit is fitted to the Leon and the technical specs are a bit contradictory.

Blaupunkt don't list an email contact address for technical queries, just a 'hotline' phone number, and I'll never get the time at work to call them (assuming they even know whether it will work with an OEM head unit, rather than a branded one).

Thanks folks.

If you have an iPod get the iPod option where its installed under your seat and save yourself alot of bother. If your just using an ordinary mp3 play maybe you could suffice with the aux socket, though some say the audio is poor through it.

Don't for get you can burn yourself a mp3 CD and have a hundred or so of tracks per disc

I think the ipod etc adapters are just inputs, i.e. no control over tracks etc

I want to be able to select tracks etc via the steering wheel controls, rather than fiddling with my MP3 player while driving.

I think Connects 2 do an adapter that will work with my Walkman (NW-A3000), but I'd still need another hands-free solution for the phone.

If Blaupunkt's own adapter works, it supports connection to usb hard-disks, and I can get a cheap lap-top HDD and IDE to USB converter just to go in the car.

I rip all MP3s at 320kbps (yes, I can hear the difference), so I don't get many tracks on a CD-RW.

I've 20GB+ of music that I'd like to access in the car. That's a lot of CD-RWs. :(

Blaupunkt's adapter looks clean and neat, all depends on whether it will work with the OEM head-unit in the Leon.

No, of course I don't need 20GB of music with me in the car, but if I can, I wouldn't mind having it. :D

It's the 'cake and eat it' routine. Sometimes I like to listen to whole albums, sometimes I like the surprise factor of a random track picked by shuffle play from my whole library, or all tracks beginning with 'M' etc (it's a great way of rediscovering CDs that you haven't listened to in months/years.

I'd rather not fiddle with the buttons on an MP3 player, so I need a solution that allows me to control what I listen to via the head unit.

And I need a handsfree phone solution.

Guess I'll have to wait till the car arrives and see if I can get one of those adapters from somewhere that will let me return it if it doesn't work.

Well I have just installed the Dension ICE>Link Plus, and it lets me skip between tracks via my steering wheel. It plays all my playlists, I think it also does random (not sure), but you have to look at the iPod to see the track info.

If you want ultimate control with track info displayed get one of these, but its not cheap.CLICKY

Hi,

The Blaupunkt Bluetooth kit dosent work on the SEAT / VW Oem headunits.

It is designed for the Blaupunkt aftermarket databus. Currently the only OEM radios that it is working with is Fiat.

Damn, that's a real pain in the a**se.

OK - is it possible to buy an aftermarket USB adapter and an aftermarket Bluetooth adapter that can both be plugged in to the factory-fit head-unit at the same time (or is there only a single available connector on the back of the head unit)?

Seat's factory-fit options for both would work out at £325.00, including the VAT and I reckon that's a bit steep.

Cheers

Dont quote me on this but i think you are would be able to use something like this http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4221246 i had one fitted in my focus and it worked a treat. about £90 from ebay

Am sure it will work because on the back of the SEAT radio there is 3 connections for a phone 1) radio mute 2) speaker + 3) speaker -

which is the wires we have just unpluged and pluged from my seat radio for the bluetooth and pluged into my alpine radio.

I would check that out tho first.:headhurt:  :D

hi,

Depending what your wish is for the BT kit you have to choose for the SEAT OEM or go for an aftermarket version.

SEAT:
If you want to control the kit from your steering wheel and see the info in the display.

Aftermarket:
If you want to have a Bluetooth kit that works with sound over the speakers, but separate control. Then there is plenty to choose from (Nokia, Parrot, THB Bury and many more).
The radio have the inputs for this, and the kit can be installed by any car-hifi specialist.

For the USB connection, you only have to look at the German ebay, then you will see that there is plenty of OEM kit for sale there - at around 50 euro up...

have fun...

Although the MP3 upgrade idea is cool, it's too expensive for me and the under seat docking station sounds way to fiddly for regular use. I listen to my "mini shuffle" through the aux connector (nothing wrong with sound quality if you use quality shielded cable and check the aux settings) when I need to but you just can't beat the MP3 CD player..... full control and quick, cheap, and easy to burn discs with 8 hours of music on each one.

Marvellous

I gave in in the end and revised my order to include the factory fit Bluetooth option.

I didn't fancy having too many wires trailing for plug-ins or drilling into a brand new dash for the parrot etc units.

The clincher though, was that the bluetooth option apparently includes a washer fluid level indicator. Had that on a hired c-Max and found it really usefull, especially in the winter when road salt gets mixed in with spray. Useful to know when to top-up.

As for the MP3s; I've an MP3 autochanger in my current Megane. Equates to more than 4GB of MP3s (about the same as an iPod Mini). Sounded like a great idea at the time, but but I quickly got fed up of burning CD-RWs everytime I bought new music. I don't use it at all anymore, just the dash-mount CD player.

Will probably get the connects2 adapter for Sony NWs and mount my MP3 player in a mobile phone holder where I can see it without taking my eyes too far off the road.

More expense :(
