Hi there,
I guess I'm hoping for a bit of confirmation.
I was travelling at about 40 and my revs shot up to 4500 maybe more on its own and the engine was screaming. Only thing I could think to do to stop it was turn off the engine but just before I did there was a bang and a lot of smoke. Aa guy reckons turbo but didn't want to risk starting engine. Lots of oil in the pipe from the turbo. The advice I've had is pretty much that I will be throwing good money after bad. She's on 185000 miles and recently started with the cluster/immobiliser problem too.

Many thanks

Can you replace the turbo yourself or does it wanna go to a garage?
Recon turbo is probably 300 quid, it generally doesn't matter how ****** up the last one go because they throw the old core away and only use the covers.

Have you checked for the wire of death problem?? I thought I had immobiliser issues and it was just a broken wire in the end, cost nothing to fix when I finally found it.

Thankyou for your reply. It would have to be a garage job. I've had a quote for 250 for a turbo but the problem is, the extent of the damage is unknown and my funds are pretty limited so the advice I've had is to scrap it. To be fair she's not really great nick and I've kind of been hanging on hoping I could get another year or two. The immobiliser thing seemed to start happening when my trip switch stopped working and it's the 6 dial dash which has never fully worked in the 4.5 years I've had it. I think it's time for me to stop being sentimental as I can't afford to plow money into repairs and still have a knackered car.

Yea it's a good decision, no-one is made of money.

Have a look at the Mk2 Leons, they are pretty good value.
