Cambelt Kit & Water Pump - LCR - How Much?

Just been quoted £450 for replacement and fitting of the water pump and cambelt on my LCR by my local JCT600 Seat dealership.

If I want a oil & filter change too they want £100 on top! :wtf:

Just checked on e-bay and it seems that cambelt kits are £120ish and water pumps anything from £16-£34... that seems like an epic charge for labour then by JCT, unless I'm missing something!?

Do these prices seem correct or is someone having a laugh?

Its not the kits that are expensive mate its the labour they charge for as i think the CAM belt is a big job!!! I paid £280 fitted for a CAM Belt plus rollers from a Seat dealer. Hope this helps!!

If it's the JCT600 I've been to they're not the most helpful (was left waiting for 10 minutes at the parts desk recently).

Plenty of garages in Leeds that will do the work for much less - IVC are a VAG specialist (labour charge £45 an hour) but I'm going to my local mechanic from now on - £25 a hour and he really knows what he's doing:). I took my own oil and filter down recently (£33) and he did the change for free in a spare half hour he had while chatting away with me. I might not get the dealer stamp but I have more confidence my car's being looked after which I've come to realise is more important.

Not sure I'm allowed to mention who he is on here so PM me if you want to know :)

Can't believe some places want over £90 for an oil change :wtf:

Well, that's the point I'm making mate..

I know the rough price of the parts from having a look on e-bay, and so it would suggest that my local Seat dealership are charging huge wonga for labour.

I have it good authority from a mechanic that its roughly 4-5 hour's work and so this would suggest that JCT are wanting to charge me £60-£75 per hour for labour at least!?

Whilst it is quite a big job, I think some dealers dress it up as being a HUGE job simply because of how important it is for the engine's life..

I've been quoted £190 supplied and fitted by a mate who has serviced plenty of these engines before and I know he's no monkey. For this money he'll supply and fit the authentic parts and also do the tensioner(s) too. Bargain if you ask me!
