CD Player

Can any one give me a definitive answer on the make and model of the CD Player supplied with the Altea sport...?
I 'm sure I read it is a Blaupunkt but I may have imagined this. thishttp://www.seatcupra.net/forums/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=0&forumid=86#
Head Hurts
I want to try to use my Ipod or my Sony cd Interchanger, but I am struggling to find any info on what wiring adaptors are required to fit the head unit.!

Cheers...

It's the headend which is the question not the CD player. The headend is a Blaupunkt and the connection is called a quadlock. The wiring is unique to the VW group since about 2004. Your in luck if you want to connect a Ipod, guys on here have...

A Google on here "ipod seat altea"

Bring up this http://www.incarelectrics.co.uk/uploads/HTML/Seat_Altea_iceLink_Plus_ipod_accessory_675_1.htm

You can just scan down the Google for other suppliers....

but us unhappy guys with esoteric requirements like wanting to fit a Sony MD Changer to the headend are still stuffed unless somebody knows otherwise. This is what I've been trying to do since the 31st December and the months pass bye. Getting tired of burning CDs and I do record live world music concerts to MD... getting a bit of an expert at mastering MDs back to CDs and DVDs to CDs but it's not the way I want to go...

Thanks for that Tell!!!
I have read your reports on changing the speakers which I plan to do soon. Do you live anywhere near Newcastle, if so could you call round and give me a hand as it all seems abit of nightmare!!! Still I'll give it a go as I can't live with it the way it is.

Regards...

Afraid I don't live near Newcastle and you'd need my brother with my hacksaw who took the lip off the speaker plastic thingey kit from AudioLeads. It is straight forward and that other guy did the whole lot in two hours flat, all four speakers. I did two at the time whilst I delegated cutting the lip off to bro, and it was still winter-ish. Least I sorted it out for all of you who want to change the speakers, although Paul had done it before me. The good thing about the AudioLeads speaker adapter for the Golf IV is that you get the VW leads so you don't need to cut the car's speaker leads so you can just click it into place after solder or choc blocking the wires up in the house to the leads. All the screw holes allign as well.

My Infinity speakers sound pretty good [excellent] with good base sounds, so the headend is capable of packing a punch into decent speakers but what come with the Altea are crap speakers. Car speakers are like home speakers they need burning in, but those Philips ones which are fitted are crap. The tweeters shove out the sound from four places so you get the same sound from front and back in your drivers ear, so they definitely need disconnecting since even in your club or top shop or whatever you don't get four tweeters chirping at you and a base unit some where, you get two tweaters. Afraid I like my top range sound, mid and base all sourced from the same point rather than coming from different points. Don't think the component sound works well in a car myself not least how it's set up in the Altea and with the fitted poor mid range / bass drivers.

I do listen to remixed club world music and it's sounds pretty good through this set up.

Can,t wait to change them, I must admit they are very poor speakers in such a good car, it's going to be awhile though.
Let you Know how I get on!

I got my iPod - Altea adapter from Gordon Harwood Computers - they are Apple Mac resellers and the website is at www.ghc.co.uk - the device is called an ice>link plus or words to that effect!

The steering wheel controls working with the IPod I know that since I read it somewhere, but you can go through your favourites or something like that [not having an IPod]....

try this http://www.incarelectrics.co.uk/uploads/HTML/Seat_Altea_iceLink_Plus_ipod_accessory_675_1.htm

http://www.ghc.co.uk/icelink/

http://www.essentialipod.co.uk/product.php?xProd=55&xSec=17

this bit from above

"ice>Link Plus playlist mode maps the first five playlists stored on the iPod to CDs 1-5 on your head unit keys. Although the iPod keypad is disabled in this mode, the iPod display (and CD Text/dashboard displays in some applications) will show ID3 data of the currently playing song. Advanced content features including Random, Repeat, Scan and AlbumPlay are also available. CD6 accesses the ice>Link Plus menu that lets you browse all of the playlists on your iPod using your head unit FF/RW keys. The menu also provides configuration options for advanced features of the interface. Please note that the original 1G/2G iPods that don't have the bottom-mounted dock connector do not support ice>Link Plus playlist mode or the menu.
"

Now you won't get any titles up on the headend since the software in the headend doesn't support showing titles from the "CD Changer" - there is no menu option, this is what hibitdat pointed out to me once when I was asking re a MD Changer, believe it was he.

I looked at all these pages when I was in hot pursuit of the interface box which connects the Altea headend with Sony changers whether CD / MD etc. Thread elsewhere... that all works perfectly so far, so good, the MD Changer is working nicely and supports randon play of disc and tracks. I seem to recall that the built in Altea doesn't, perhaps it does, but you press the Disc Random Track button and it shuffles tracks between disks if that take your fancy with the MD being pulled in just before the track end for the next to play etc... all clever stuff;).

It's a good headend in the Altea, wish people would stop knocking it, the speakers are crap they just need changing. If people want to drive around with a big arrow that says "please break into my car I got a DIN fitting radio worth nicking" then that's the way to go  . In London you wouldn't want to do that, I had my back window taken out and parcel shelf stolen for my parcel shelf speakers in the past, after that I developed a strategy of now not showing anything different in the car than nothing.

Hi there. I am new to this forum. I am interested in buying the ICE link for ipod. The question is where do I get it fitted once I get the connector from the internet? Local dealer? or DIY?
Thanks

Hi i'm new on here and looking for a bit of advice. I own an 05 Toledo ( i know i'm in the Altea section) but i am wondering if these ice link units will work in my Toledo. If so how do you pull out the head unit to connect it up?

Thanks in advance for any help

It will work if you order the Altea fitting connection.... the Halfords boys for removing the headend use the little metal strips that you get with your car radio systems if you buy one, sometimes. Basically there are a set of lugs which you can see if you look around the headend and you push a suitable hard piece into each lug which pushes it up and out of the way. Using a set of these bits, they hold all the clips up and you just pull / ease the headend forward.

There are pictures on the Altea site as I recall of this process failing this I'm sure Klawits has some ;).

There is discussion on here about it, IPods / ICE etc .... I recall Loadswine has done it [IPod] as I recall, I could be wrong mind you. Some people order a little bracket thing which also clips into the headend... also pictures of that as I recall.

I'll pass you over to the IPod people.... :D

Hi Tell,

how come you're so absolutely sure about this, mate? ... ;) :D

Well, for the ones interested in pictures, here's an excerpt form my post in the german forum ...

btw. ... to make sure the above pics won't get lost with the external hoster imagevenue.com I'd added and stored them in a more secure place ... including 2 more pictures (one showing the use of special tool, i.e. those 4 metal strips):

Thank you very much for the information.

Just one more question. Do you then hide the dock in the glovebox or the compartment under the arm rest?

Cheers Tell good information to know. Mmm now what to buy Ipod Mini or Ipod 20Gb.

My advice is buy the biggest hard drive you can afford as although the normal compression is fine for headphones i found that feeding it through the stereo showed up the quality (or lack of) of the burning. i now burn as apple lossless which gives the results but is memory heavy!
