Well looking to change my car from my 1.8 TSi to a bigger car for towing a caravan.
The wife likes the Audi Q3's.
I like the Audi A5 as i have had a Peugeot 406 coupe a good few years ago.
What do you think will be best ?
Cheers.

If the wife (boss) likes the Q3, show her round a Ateca. Same car just fully loaded? Unsure on towing capabilities.. If the Ateca Cupra allowed a tow bar and i need a SUV that would be my choice!

Worth having a read of this, if you’ve not already done so.

With either the Audi Q3 or A5, you’re looking at a list price of £30-£35k if you’re considering new. Add a few options (standard spec can be a bit sparse) and the price skyrockets.

Of the Caravan Club Towcar of the Year winners, I’d consider the Volvo XC40 or the Skoda Kodiaq, although if you’re considering the Audi Q3, why not take a look at a couple of the VAG range equivalents which will be quite a bit cheaper than the Q3; the Skoda Karoq and Seat Ateca.

Can you imagine a 1.0TSI Ateca towing? My personal opinion, if you would be towing frequently, one of the 2.0TDI would be the best bet.

You can't get 1.0L Ateca's can you? I thought they only came in 1.0P, 1.5P, 1.6D and 2.0D?

But 100% a diesel would be the way forward.

You might have answered it, the 1.0TSI is the 1.0P(petrol?). There is no diesel 1.0TDI. There is a 1.6TDI though.

As far as I know, there is a 1.0TSI, a 1.4/1.5TSI ACT, 2.0TSI 190, and now a 2.0TSI 300 Cupra. Diesels are 1.6TDI 115, 2.0TDI 150/190. Don't think there's a Bi-Turbo version of the 2.0TDI 240.

Thanks for your many replies
I am not looking at new and have about 15k ( with my car as part of that money in px change ).
Seen a few Audi Q3's .. like the look of the 2.0 TFSi with 181bhp ( i do not like diesels to much )
They tow very well from the info on towcar website.
Not sure a Seat Ateca is within my range.

You could also consider the VW Tiguan. Very similar - if not the same - under the skin. There are a few 2.0 petrol for sale on Auto Trader website within your budget.

For £15k you’d probably get a slightly newer Tiguan or one with fewer miles that you would a Q3.

I have a Leon ST FR & an Audi Q3 1.4 TSI COD.... make sure you are happy with the ride in what ever you change the leon for.. SUV's ride are always compromised compared with traditional hatches & Estates. (The worst ever car I owned was a BMW X3 3 litre petrol Sport, absolutley horrendous to drive)

Also they drink a lot more fuel, my leon & Q3 have the same 1.4tsi COD / ACT engine and the leon I get upto 64MPG on a run and the Q3 48MPG on similar run.

Tiguan's a good shout, lovely looking motors as well IMO.
