I need to give my Leon Cupra a very good clean and polish. What stuff do people recommend and how do they rate the following as these are what I'm looking at the mo:

Meguiar's NXT Car Wash
Meguiar's Gold Class Bug and Tar Remover
Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax
Meguiar's The Ultimate Wash Mitt

Not sure about what I should use for drying the car and waxing it.

I have a yellow fr and I use all of them... i hink they are good and easy to uise. I love the smell of the wash... i think you could drink it!

Although i have been ltold that NXT is better suited to metalic paint and that classic is better for ordinary paint

The mitt's fine.
NXT is good wash, more aggressive than some.
Tech wax is a sealant/wax - never used it myself.
What's missing in your line-up is a polish to take out swirls and put the shine on, I can't think of anything Halfords carrys that would do the job. Do they carry Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner? Clay bar is useful too, to lift the contaminants that your tar remover doesn't.

Halfords carry most of the Meg's range..

So basically it'll be
wash
dry
polish
wax

with my ovni lcr i just jetwash it over with plain water, then take a clean sponge to it making sure to wash sponge out when it gets to dirty then jet wash it off, then i go round every seam and line with a tooth brush so get in the places a sponge cant, jet wash it once more, then i wax it with turtle wax xtreme, comes out the bollox then i give the blacks some gell and it looks like new, i never use shampoo of any kind. when i got the car i polished the hell out of it and the wax is still protecting it, so it doesnt need a polish for a long time

I cant really comment on the Meguiars products as we've never used them outside of the labratory reports.

However, I will say that it is not advisable that you use a sponge as accumulated grit/contaminants will stay on the surface of the sponge at point of contact and will be dragged across the bodywork until the point in time it is placed in the rinse bucket/rinsed. You are much better off using a Microfibre mitten that will 'embed' the dirt into its own structure that will remain there until rinsed.

Karcher pressure washer and several attatchemnts!

Spinny brush foamer thing
High pressure jet blaster
Karcher detergent!
Sponge!
Thats it!

Find the Karcher stuff leaves car just a shiny as polish and held dirt to fall off easier next time you wash it!

Only thing i do use thats " specialist" is wonder wheels to shift the three tonnes of brake dust!

Might as well have at it with a scouring pad and have done with it.

Oh, I see you've got one anyway. ;)

Brushes are never a good thing on car paintwork, sponges might be even worse. Even if it looks clean, you've still got those bits of grit from your sills in there.
Ever wonder why you've got tiny little scratch/swirl marks that show up in the sunlight (remember that!)? It's because you're rubbing your paint with wet'n'dry every time you wash.

I'm not having a go at you psq, most people don't realise what they're doing to their paint.

Think it safe enough! Made of nice rubber things not razor wire like stuff you normally see! Make sure i give it thorough clean after every use. Bloke from dentmaster said it was fine and what experts recomend when he was doing scuff in door the other week! Never noticed any problems with it so far, agev good inspection of paintwork today on your comment and seems ok!

But i do understand what your getting at. See some people out in the street with a dustpan brush cleaning the car!!!

I'm gonna be getting into the "proper" cleaning that is detailing soon.

After looking around and getting lots of advise, my shopping list is very long and expensive, but worth it:

Clearkote Vanilla Moose Glaze
Klasse All In One
Optimum Car Wax
Poorboys Slick n Suds
couple of wash mitts
Poorboy's Bold n Bright
Meguiars All Metal Polysh

Then add the waffle weaves etc. Looking at around £150 for the lot!!!! but should make my car ready for shows etc, and keep it in good condition!

Klasse AIO is actually Car-Lack68 rebranded for the US market.

Now thats what I call a shopping list Pabs. Anybody who disrespects a Leon Cupra by taking a sponge or brush to the paintwork deserves to be horse whipped 'til their skin comes off! ;)

lol!
I've not started to use any of it yet. Thinking of washing the car tomorrow, but i def. don't have time to do a detail, so i think it'll just be a wash and dry using the poorboys SS&S and B&B for now

tescos were doing those microfibre cloth things two for a quid the other day....

can really recommend the meg clay bar....even tho you think your car is clean (when i ran my fingers over my car in the showroom i could feel little bumps under my fingers) clay barred it yesterday before i waxed it and it is very smooth and shiny :)
