I suspect that the clutch in my TDI 130 is on it's way out, as seems to bite at the very top of the pedal, and on occasional with the clutch fully depressed the car sometimes slips forward a fraction, however my main concern is that if a get a new clutch fitted is it common that i will also need a new flywheel, or is this the exception....

Maybe, dropped it into an audi/vw indy on my way home and he said the clutch was weak but perhaps had a couple of months left in it, worst case £600 + vat for everything, or less for the clutch only..this sound reasonable..

I wouldnt pay all that labour for clutch change and not get the dmf done at same time matey thats just daft cos sure as hell months later the dmf will fail and you have all the labour cost all over again

Bont get bitten twice when you can do it all in one go

i did'nt know you had to replace both at the same time.. be interesting to find out how much the parts and labour come to seperately and perhaps source the parts myself...

You don't need to replace both at the same time but it's highly likely that the other will go shortly down the line which will cost you more in the long run.
Just like you don't need to replace the water pump when you change the timing belt but it's just a good idea to do it at the same time to save having to do the same job twice/ pay someone to do the job twice.

You should be able to pick up a clutch and DMF together off German, Swedish and French for about half the price of the dealership.
That's where I got mine.

Here's there e-bay store, although they probably have a store close to you aswel.
