Cold air intake hoses... What lengths / ID's have you all chosen?

Hey folks,
I've done a search but a lot are mentioning dynatwist feeds etc, which I do not have.

As I am hopefully fitting my FMIC this weekend, I will be using the opportunity to also fit a proper cold air feed, and remove the standard one.

I am going to buy a Neoprene air intake pipe, however there are various sizes, ranging from 60mm ID all the way to over 100mm ID.

Bearing in mind the space is confined in the wing area, i'd imagine 100mm ID hosing would be pushing it, but the wider the better also...

What have you all got?

Also, is 1M long enough?

Im going to put it like the searches have suggested, facing towards the inner front part of the bumper (passenger wing side), rather than directly front facing the flow of air due to the amount of rain this country has!

I have a pipe which adapts the direction I bend it to. It kind of looks like the tubes you use on your drying machine, but then in black.

I put it behind battery straight into the wing (where the oem plastic air feed is now). Remove the one bolt and jank the thing out. This way the feed sits just above end of bumper infront of the wheel

As for size i'm not entirely sure but I imagine mine is +- 70mm diameter.

im thinking about running it from the pasenger fog light its cracked anyway so guna get rid someone else has done the same cant think who though...thinking about 70-80 for the diameter but got to have a look really see what rooms avaliable...going to try sort out a better feed for the smic aswell untill i replace it...

I just removed my passenger fog light and ran some SPS tube 83mm diameter to my jetex filter and also one from behind the front grill to the space where the filter is.

what length roughly did u need from the fog light mate im doing the same thing not sure 1 meter is going to be enough from there..??

Where is your filter mate?

My jetex one is literally sitting on the SMIC pipe and used around 15cm of pipe as the SMIC pipe gets in the way.

Once get a FMIC I should be able to get a better angle onto the filter

You located yours right inside the wing then...

Ive got mine just by the wing used a 45deg pipe from the tip its up by the original air intake pipe at the moment...

The shop im looking at can sell it in multiples of 500mm, so 1.5M is fine, although 3 x the cost instead of just 2 x the cost of the 500m (approx £17 for 1m).

My Jetex is same place as yours mate, although i'll be keeping my foglights for now (you can't drive in essex without foglights on, even in glaring daytime sunlight...) Just kidding!

In theory 1M should be enough even for using the foglight hole as an air feed...But would like others to confirm.

This is how mine is mounted...

right down in the wing.

I would say 1.5 meter length would be safe bet on the length of the cold air feed uo to the engine bay, as with diameter i was thinking smaller diameter means the air forced in will be under more pressure so travelling quicker but less amount to get in or a large diameter with lots of air flow but not so fast.

but i think thats over complciating just a simple pipe feed lol

i've finally removed my dynatwist outter casing, and my god the difference is massive, so enclosed is restrictive, as phil says

never heard the turbo whistle so loud, its silly, and the recir is stupid loud

Even on a non-enclosed jetex filter though? Putting the feed just a bit in front of it, as the feed is just an extra way of getting more air in, as well as the air it will get around the engine bay area?

i done mine yesterday i got a 90mm id hose with a trumpet on one end i put the trumpet in the engine bay and fitted it where the std air feed was and the bottom slot under fog light is where i got the air coming from but you cant do this if you still have the standard intercooller ..

Alright chap, I went for a 90mm ID as well, didn't bother with anything on the ends, and just fed it into the wing, plenty of space when the SMIC is gone!

yeah when the smic is gone theres loads of room to fit the hose i used 1m aswell only reason i got the funnel is so it looks good under bonnet ..

100mm fits down in the wing with a trumpet, its tight but it fits.

yeh i got 100mm id flexi piping from my smic cold air feed slot up to my filter...
