Hi guys,

Had the car a while now and been thinking of different things eg cams, charging etc.

I have came to the decision to convert to 16v.

What is it i'll need, is it just the head i would need plus cam for different fueling?

Engine code is AZL so not sure if its a new 2.0 8v from the mk2 in the mk4.

Cheers

Ross

i would grab a head gasket or pics at least for both first to make sure they will line up at all

thats just for starters too - cambelt dimensions be next up too

gonna need some serious research tbh

From memory the compression ratios make this a non-starter. IIRC 8v head onto 16v block is ok to reduce compression to add turbo etc.

rods etc ring a bell too - but thats a thread collection far far away :)

Headwork, 8v cam, and remap isn't going to be much difference cost wise to a 16v engine transplant. You probably won't get near the power/driveability/economy of a 16v either. Think carefully.

the bottom end from both the 8v and 16v is the same, you could use the 16v top end with the 16v cam belt etc, may need to change pulleys but iirc they are the same.

Does the 16v head from the 2.0 16v golf gti act as a direct replacement and upgrade to the head from my 99 8v gti cupra sport ibiza? i was looking in to whole engines ect but miliage is an issue and i got good history here, i also looked at the 16v head from the 1.8 cordobra?? not usre hwere to go or what to do really i had also looking into pp ans gas flow, cams, fse, uprated fuel pump ect but i would get more out of the 16v too if i did the same and i can get the head off either of these motors at a very reasonable price...

id definatly charge it, i be very susprised if the 16v head bolts to the 8v block. G60 isnt cross flow but as mentioned the mk4 golf/bettle have 8v cross flow heads and they bolt straight on.
