Cooling fan kicking in in traffic

Hi All,

Got a 2002 210 LCR. To my knowledge the car is stock with no mods. A couple of weeks ago I noticed the car just creeping over the 90 degree mark and the cooling fans kicking in. Mainly in slow traffic and when I was sat at mcdonalds drive through. Outside temp was about 15degs. I was a bit worried as the FSH showed cambelt but not waterpump and the car has only done 65k.

Last week I had the cambelt done again, a new water pump and a new thermostat whilst I was there. This morning on the way to work. 15.5degs outsite. Sitting in traffic (1hour 20mins to go 16miles) the fans kicked in again.

Is this normal behaviour on these or is there something I may have missed? I am used to cars fans only kicking in in 30deg heat when left idling for ages. This car seems to creep up even when outside temps are quite low.

Cheers

T

Hi mate, first of all this is in the FAQs, not the main mk1 forum. It won't get noticed here so probably best to repost in the correct section. It's a common mistake and a bit of a confusing design tbh, but you have to scroll right to the bottom of the mk1 page and then use that "new thread" box at the bottom, rather than the one at the top of the page( which is for FAQ's).

On to the issue, i believe you probably have the 'Slow speed fan issue' That causes temps to creep up and then brings the fans on at maximum speed, which is probably why you are questioning it as it's quite loud inside the car.

There is a guide to the issue here, check your car for the symptoms as described in the first post ..... http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=331943

Hope that helps.
