Hello guys,

i bought new engine recently from ebay for my leon 1.8t AUQ. it is brand new block and it was located in Wetherland UK. I waited for it about one month to arrive to my country via sea to saudi arabia.
the seller ansured my quastion about its code and he said it is AUQ one which is I need, but when i recieve it. i found it without code but it has a paper taq shows those codes:

I went to the dealer parts guy to insure about the engine code to varify if its belong to AUQ one .. The big surprise to me, as per the dealer parts data base, we determined that , the engine is BAM!!!!

my question now is my new engine is swapable along with my ECU? and what is required to be changed too as hardware??

note : i checked ecu of BAM and i saw 5 different code belong to it and they are:
8N0906018 BH,
8N0906018 CB,
8N0906018 H,
8N0906018 BP & 8N0906018 CG
What is the deffernt between them with aknowlege that the AUQ has 8N0906018 BH ECU CODE!

Returning the engine is not a choice for me.
the Engine cost me arround 1000 GBP.

please advise me ...:help::help::help:

hi

I will bet for that, just swaping the ecu for a cupra will do the job (or reprograming yours).
Therefore if you want to start the engine out of the car your also can try with your stock ecu, no any harm.

Best regards

I think you have been given some false information here.... If you search on VAGCAT that part number brings up the engine code of AUQ & ARY which are essentially the same

That isn't a BAM engine either, you can see it has a SAI valve on the side of the cylinder head, which a BAM doesn't have.

Just remove your old engine and install all ancillaries (turbo manifold - inlet etc etc) onto your new engine and it should be fine.

Don't go swapping ecu's as they are matched to the instrument cluster / key etc.

Cheers.

hi

I am not giving false info here, as far as I know.
The BAM engine is basicaly a 20vt 1.8l modded to get up to 225hp on stock.

You need to put the Bam ecu on the car to get all the 225hp, if you don´t you will go up to 180hp max.

Of course instruments cluster and keys need to be adapted to the new ecu, obviously, but procedure is far easy.

Best regards
Rober

Yes, it’s the more powerful Turbo, ancillary’s and map that make that extra HP in the BAM base engine. Not just the ECU
Oh, and the BAM block has different internals, and the head has a lower compression ratio.

You can’t just drop a BAM base engine into an AUQ setup and expect an ECU swap or remap to get the results I think you want.

If you currently have an AUQ setup in the car, then that engine you picture will drop straight in, including the SAI, without any other alterations. As it’s an AUQ head and block.

I think you are wishing it to be a BAM engine you have received, so as you can get some extra power.
But without changing other items, it isn’t that simply.

what is SAI Valve ? :)

I discover recently ARY has 110 kw and 132 kw as well,, what is the different between them. is the turbo only? my old AUQ has 132 kw with ko3s turbo and VVT which ARY hasn't as I know.

150BHP has KO3 and narrow band lambda
180BHP has KOS3 and wide band Lambda
Both have VVT, but it's function is controlled by the map
Of course the stock map is different and there may also be other ancillary changes

SAI is Secondary Air injection. It’s used to get the CAT up to operating temperature quickly

Why did you want to do an engine swap anyway?

To be honest, and with the greatest respect, an engine swap isn’t for the faint hatred.
I would seriously consider taking it to a VAG specialist. If they’re good, they’ll answer all your questions and put things right for you. Making sure it’s done properly is very important. You don’t want to shake your new engine apart.

Iv just done an auq engine swap,
I'm a time served heavy goods mechanic, Iv done engine swaps in all sorts and this leon Iv just done is by far the worst engine replacement Iv ever done,

You definitely have to be handy with the spanners to take it on, good luck

Hi there,

I will tell you my miserable story;
I have no trusted information source in my country for VAG stuff except you guys. Even our SEAT dealer who almost broken! ,, I found this new engine with very special price so i preferred to buy it than to fix my old engine as long as we have lacking of trusted VAG specialist here in my country.
It’s supposed to be straight forward AUQ as the seller told me but when I receive it I found it without code!.
The average price of reconditioning my old engine will cost me x2 the new engine price outside the dealer and x3 in the dealer!!

I really appreciate your helping.

How you getting on with your engine swap? Have you got it done yet?

thank you for your following up. :)

it is on going, the work shop is waiting for the turbo from my side.

the only thing has been reused from the old engine is the oil sump.
my old AUQ has oil sump sensor while the new AUQ/ARY hasn't.
so the differnent is the hole of the sensor which is not exist in the new one.

SACHES Cluthc kit Carbon kelvlar for stage2 has been engaged
JBS hybrid k03 turbo on the way over seas shiped.
4 bar fuel pressure regulator installed
BAM fuel injectors installed.

my goal is to upgrade the new engine into stage2 settings.
