Couple of things....

Just bought a Leon Cupra, first two things I'm going to do is put a cone filter on it and fit a stereo. Still has the tape deck in it!

I'm pretty sure I need a filter with a 70mm neck for the Cupra. Can someone confirm this? (I think the Cupra R is 80mm??) I would just measure it but don't pick the car up until next weekend.

Am I right in saying I don't need an ISO connector or an aerial adaptor for the stereo? It's a 54 plate if that makes any difference.

There is loads of info on here about what you need to do, but from memory you need to do something with the live and switched live (I think they are reversed on the ISO), put an aerial booster on and fit a fascia adaptor as the stereo that comes with the car is over sized.

I've read a few things on here and it seems all I need is the fascia. Just seems odd that the factory wiring will plug straight in to the aftermarket stereo. It's pretty normal to havehto switch the live and switched live. Have seen that people haven't bothered with the signal booster and had no issues.

I have tried 3 aftermarket head units , none of them worked with or without the booster, I think its just pot luck whether they do or not.

Correct could not tune any stations very well, what it did find was all static and distortion, should add put the same headunit and booster into my Kia and no issues at all, put the Leon's oem headunit back into the Leon and could tune stations no problem at all.

Mine was a straight swap with a Panasonic CD / USB head unit. The radio did suffer, but I still can get the main stations around here, lose signal when I've travelled over the Yorkshire moors / The Lakes but I'm listening to my iPhone 90% of the time :)

You'll defo need a facia trim though, only a few quid on eBay.

Done some digging on the radio, seems the original amplifier is in the base of the aerial which is prone to corrosion. So if you have no/poor signal I believe replacing the aerial/base of the aerial should fix it.

Yeah I think if it works then it works, but if it doesn't then replacing the base of the aerial does the trick as that is were the original amplifier is and seems to get water damaged.
