Cracked Windscreen

Has anyone yet had to get the Windscreen replaced on a Mk2 Leon?
I seem to remember reading it was a pig of a job even for the proffessionals from Autoglass and the like. With high potential for damage to bodywork?
Mine has a crack so it has to be done either way, but its nice to have a heads up.
thanks .

Hi Guys,

Yes, i had mine replaced by Autoglass. There was no damage to the bodywork etc the main issue was with the glass itself and the wipers.

AR_CoolC on here was really helpful as he works for Autoglass. You need to ensure that the glass is PILKINGTON not Safevue, as there was a problem with a batch of Safevue windscreens. Bit busy at work at the mo but do a search for my previous post in Dec and the details are on there, they had a devil of a job setting the wipers correctly as well.

Good luck with it.

I've just had mine replaced at the weekend by Autoglass, as i had a 8 inch crack straight down the middle at the top of the screen. The only damage was to the trim, which will be replaced on Thursday as they had to order some in from Seat. The trim that was sent with the replacement screen was damaged in transit...

They also haven't set the driver side wiper correctly, it doesn't return as flush as it used to, but again this is being sorted out on Thursday when they replace the trim.

Near Reevo :)
Interesting, mine is also cracked from the top of the screen downwards starting right in the centre portion of the screen just above the centre rear-view mirror.

Anyone else's broken there too?? - Cannot see any stone chip marks but have had lots of stone hit the screen.

Had mine done a few weeks ago by RAC Autowindscreens who sent 2 men so that they didn't have to interfere with the wipers.

Before he leaves check the wipers work properly. mine seemed ok initially. Spray water on screen and make sure that the passenger side wiper doesnt hit the A pillar. mine did very hard!!!

Is it a Pilkington screen?

I havnt checked screen make, too late now, but the sun visor on it is a bit larger then my current cracked one ... the bloke said he knows what hes doing and has done one before ! so i trust him, he said it should be done in another 30 mins or so.. he has the alignment keys for wipers and he is confident... we shall see

Thats good news that he has done one before :) Mine was the first for my local Autoglass depot. definately make sure you are happy with the wipers before he goes, mine were adjusted about 4 times. Have you got the Conv Pack?

by convenience pack do you mean auto wipers / rain sensor? if so, then no. just the basic wiper and windscreen setup.

Ok, its all done ! the glass is made by "Guardian", he knew about pilkington and they are virtually the same, he said safevue are the RAC "own make" ones and a shite basically.

Job done, just as it was this morning minus a crack. wipers smooth and sit correct.

Top respect to RAC. £70 insurance excess lighter all for a store less than 5 mm :(

The factory fitted windscreen is Pilkington

RAC don't usually provide Pilkington glasses on insurance claims because it's an expensive glass.

The first time round they fitted a Guardian glass in my FR, was fine until it started to get really cold...... that was when i noticed that i was getting frost on the inside of my windscreen - basically they had fcuked up on the sealing....

So called RAC back and had a go at them and they told me that they would come out and replace it......

Even more annoyed when I found out they had chucked in a SafeVue windscreen........ From Pilkington->SafeVue..... definately wasn't a happy bunny!! [:@]

But tbh I do loads of miles for work so I didn't want to go through the hassle of replacing my windscreen a 3rd time.

Next time I'll remember to specify the type of glass i want!!!

BTW, Safevue are some South African company..... don't think they're RAC own brand.....
