Cracked Wiper arm. SHould i worry?

Ok, here is what happened. Basically I was putting the wiper arms back on after refitting the scuttle panel. As I was tightening the nut in for the driver wiper arm, I did it too much, not realising and *crack* :(

Now around that area on the arm where it connects to the motor, there is a crack line around the other side and just stops around the inside.

I plan on ordering a new one but, will the arm go on me soon or will it be ok for a while?

Also does anyone know how much a arm would cost and can I just get one or, do I need to get a set?

I know, thats what im worried about. I just want to wait untill after Christmas.

Last night i started to panic because the wipers were making a nose. So i thought it might have been it going. It turned out to be that i had not tighten the passenegers wiper enough and it come lose and stopped working. lol

i had a cracked one. new one was around 20(ish) beanos. it was fine for a while until it got icy and then as lee said it just span on the bit that its attatched to causing it to catch on the other one. just give it a try before you set off on each journey to make sure if it rains your not going to be sat on the hard shoulder like a lemon. otherwise i guess youll be ok.

yes you can just get one. most dealers have a couple in stock. £41 inc fitting mine was.

now is a good time to go to VW and get their golf 'flat floppy wiper kit'!! silver lining...

****ing ell, £21 to fit it. I was going to ask if they would put it on for me but ill do it my self now. I wont crack it twice since i know how easy they can break.

Cant get over they charge to put it on. it only takes like a min or 2 to do. Not rocket sicence either.

Cheers for the price though and ill be keeping a wrench in my car just in case lol

£21 to fit ? your having a laugh!!!!!!!!!!!

definitely not laughing. twas the subject of a letter to their head office as i wasnt even consulted as to whether i wanted it fitted. twas just presented with a bill after one of the engineers popped out and did it while i was waiting to find out what was causing the issue (couldt see the crack).

Yea they are a bitch to get off. Even though the one is cracked its still hard to get back off. Bit of WD40 and alot of wiggling.

Sneaky ****ers. I would have complained as well if they did that to me. I mean if they asked you and you said yea then ok but to do it with out telling you and slapping a bill on you. Thats wrong

Did you get refunded or is it still on-going?

This has also happened to me! The nut holding the drivers side wiper arm felt pretty tight when I was undoing it, so I thought I better do it up tight again. But it was barely tight and it cracked. I think its because theres a spring that forces the wiper to the windscreen hence the wiper arm nut hole is not completely flat and adding extra stress when you tighten it. So i guess the best thing to to is hold it flat as you tighten it.

Thing is, how tight are you meant to do these? I dont want to break another wiper arm or break the spindle or the attachments.

Lol well my Wiper arm come off while i was driving back from Swansea ages ago and i have since baught a new one.

You should tighten them untill you have to use a bit of force then stop. I've had to take mine off a few times since i've had to buy the new arm and the arms have never come loose so don't worry about them coming loose.
