Cupra 1.8t transmission swap

Hello guys,

I was wondering if any of you have experience with swapping a 6 speed transmission into a Ibiza 1.8t.
My Ibiza is year 2008 with BBU engine and I read somewhere that its possible to switch the 5 speed for a 6 speed from Leon Cupra 1M or maybe other VW group car. I would like a transmission with a longer gearing so I can have better MPG on a freeway.

If you have any experience, please post part numbers of what transmissions fits (possibly without modifications) and what is required to do the swap.

I think you can swap to the 6 speed from a MK5 golf

If you have the skills, equipment, inclination and free time to do it then maybe it would be worth considering.

If you have to pay for someone else to do it then you would take a long time to recoup the money you'd save on fuel.

In general it is always cheaper to buy the car with the engine or transmission you want rather than doing a swap. If you simply relish the challenge or will benefit from the experience (eg apprentice mechanic) that's a different matter.
