Simonali - why is dropping a car off for a day such an issue?? Is it because you just want rid and don't want it fixed??

It's just principle. Everyone knows that a diagnostic check takes about 15 minutes and I want them to do it while I wait, not spend the day driving their crummy courtesy car that they've sucked all the fuel out of...

Fair enough. It just seems a bit extreme if it means getting your car fixed. I'd organise a day that coincides with a Trackday or something and treat their crummy car to a circuit whilst saving the mileage on yours.

Their courtesy cars are pink and white Citroens...

I don't feel it's extreme in the slightest anyway. It's a brand new car with a widely known about and widespread fault on it. They should be bending over backwards to sort it out at my convenience, not pissing me off.

I had a mii for the day quite good fun so different to both my daily driver and the Cupra, had a bit of fuel so got me where I wanted to go and topped it up for them on the way back. Was yellow and stickered up low insurance, low monthlies and no tax :)

Here in The Netherlands there is now an official recall for the gearbox warning message.
Had the failure message this morning, went straight away to my dealer and without making a diagnostic check they already ordered immediately a new gear lever but then they took a look at the track record of my car and they saw that there was an official recall for this problem.
The recall stated that new software had to be flashed and after 1 hour waiting I got the car back with new software which takes care of this problem.
No need to leave the car there for a day for read out only!!
This is the kind of service that one must receive everywhere!!
Hope this took care for good of this little problem.

Lucky you. I'm planning on spending my day off tomorrow ringing other dealers to ask if they'll fix a car I didn't buy from them without too much inconvenience on my part, bearing in mind that the nearest one is around an hour's drive away. Also, it still needs the steering wheel replaced!

So, my car popped this message up the other day. Very useful details in here - thanks all who contributed.

Went to the delaers today and apparently there has been a proper recall on this - 37l8, issued on 3/10/14. I got the dealer to print out the details, I'll scan & upload (If I can as a noobie) on Monday. But basically there is an incompatability between the gear lever & the airbag module, which causes this error to appear. The fix (from what I can gather) is an update to the airbag module's software.

Mine's going in on Friday to be fixed - the dealer couldn't have been more helpful, and I didn't even buy the car there!

Great post, thanks for the info. Which dealer did you go to??

Collect my car around 15 Nov so hopefully this will be done during PDI.

Apparently, it only affected some vehicles - the VIN range is on the document I shall scan tomorrow (when back at work), so hopefully yours won't need it.
Dealer I went to is Blades in Bristol (the Feeder Road one).

Mines been in for this today.. its a software update for the DSG box

Interesting.. The technical document I have says its a software update for the airbag module, to stop an incompatibility issue with the gear lever! Either way, glad they're fixing it.

I did scan the document today, but forgot to email it to my home PC..

Its probably the same thing. It was the only recall showing on my VIN anyway, Got them to sort the door cards out aswell, fitted the rattling fix.

I was told a new gear selector was fitted when when mine was sorted out a few weeks ago. Does this mean I need a new software flash as well? #confused

The second dealer I tried to book my car into have contacted me and said they can't do the job now, the day before I was due to take the car there.

I really don't have any idea how SEAT sell any cars in the UK, the dealers are crap!! I had a Citroen once and the reliability combined with the abysmal dealer network was enough to put me off the brand for life. I'm adding SEAT to that list...

Sometimes they really can suck.
My dealer makes no problem whatsoever I just drove in with the failure message and got out 1 hour later with new software flashed.

Why can't they do it?

They said it'll need a Master Tech to do the job and they don't have one working there. Sounds like a pretty lame excuse as they're part of a chain with other branches in the area. Why couldn't they borrow theirs for the day?!
