Hi,

I am new to this forum, and would like some advice regarding my new Cupra R.

I have recently bought a 2005 Leon 225. I have noticed that the steering wheel does not have the red stripe top centre. I thought all 225's came with the red stripe on the wheel, can anyone advise?

Thanks,

Mark.

Hi, mileage is 63k

The red band on the top of the wheel and the red leather underneath the blacked holed part, comes through after high mileage due to wear from your hands. They have probably replaced the steering wheel as it does not look good! Go back to where you bought it and ask them where the original one is.

Mine has just started to wear ever so slightly but mine is cleaned regularly to get rid of the oils from your hand.

OK thanks for the comments guys, I have bought it from a private garage and I have had it hpi'd (did my own check on RAC). The check is showing its a BAM engine etc.

I was worried and I rang the Seat dealer that did the servicing and they never mentioned a replacement steering wheel, but everything else seems fine and obviously HPI was fine. Also seen all parts which have been replaced on services etc and nothing mentioned. Probs is the case that its been replaced, but the dealer I bought from never mentioned there was a spare steering wheel.

The steering wheel on the 225 does look tatty after a while. However I decided it's more economical to opt for refurbishment at £70 odd rather than a new wheel.. They used to say that cars which had been overly tarted up, engine bay steam-cleaned etc had something to hide, and you can tell the true age via wear on the steering wheel/seats/speed of seatbelt reels. However I'd say it's not common for post 2001 VAG cars to be susceptible to clocking.. If your price was right, nothing to worry about!

Cheers Alex,

Like I said earlier, did a full hpi on the car, its an 05 car, everything else seems to be right for the age (single cd, no tracker) has Brembo's. Paid what i thought was reasonable, was the latest one I could look at, roundabout the north of england, from an independent dealers.

I felt it could have been a bit cheaper but for age and miles, and considering other trade offerings it seemed like a good car. Not too many about in dealers tbh.

Where abouts did you get this done mate, mines looking very bad from poor driving habits, even the red stripe is looking worn!!

its not really something to worry about in its self. its a steering wheel and i presume its doing its job.

Although, be nice to know its got a working airbag..
Id also like to know that you have done the hpi check and then actually checked the information matches the car. eg have you checked the engine code on the engine rather than just taking the hpi info as accurate.

However dont get me wrong im sure its nothing serious.

psycho6285 - I am hoping to have mine refurbished by Paul at Leather Revive, he's based in the North though so this job isn't getting done until the end of April (26th) (I am in Oxford - so quite a way for him to travel). There are some leather colouring kits you can buy but I figured it'd be wise to have it done by a pro (he was completing a 3-day job on an Aston Martin DB5 the last time we spoke, so I am presuming a high standard of work!). You can find him on Google.. I'll post up again when I have the work done

For the sake of a little red stripe at the top of the steering wheel I really wouldn't worry. After a few miles you will get annoyed with the red coming through anyway to be honest. :) As long as the car is what is says it is, which it seems to be from the HPI check, then can't see whats the problem....?? :)

Not really I'd be more concerned with what was under the bonnet, i.e. correct engine, rather than if my steering wheel had a red stripe on it.... ;) :)

Just my opinion. :)
