Cupra servicing

Hi

My Cupra 300 is now 10 months old and on 8500 miles. Today a warning popped up saying service due in 800 miles.

This surprised me as I though it was 1 year or 10k miles? It’s also annoying how my mates golf r is on long life servicing. Is that not an option for my Cupra?

My car is on lease from VWFS. The terms say it needs to be serviced by a SEAT retailer or approved repairer. Does that mean main dealer only?

Pop in to the service menu on the head unit

If there is no dates in there - it's on long life servicing

If there is a date/mileage showing - it's on fixed interval/mileage servicing

I thought time and mileage was 10k or 1 year anyway? This will be only 9300 miles. Seems a bit soon.

In countries that measure distance in kms, time and distance service intervals are 15,000 kms or 12 months, whichever is the soonest. 15,000 kms converted to miles is 9,320, and the car counts down the miles to next service in the miles equivalent of 15,000 kms.

Forget being annoyed about your mate’s Golf R - I switched to a Golf R nearly two years ago after years of Leon Cupra and Cupra Rs - my Golf has an oil change every 10,000 miles. Given the performance of these cars, I wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving the same oil in for all that time! As for your finance deal servicing query, this is a question that has popped up on a Golf R forum I’m on - get it done at a dealership otherwise you’ll get nailed in the keyster if anything goes wrong. If, on a service, they “find a few things they’d like to bring to your attention (!)”, make a note of them and get them checked by an independent specialist. SEAT tried that stunt with me and supposedly, the stuff would’ve set me back £1700 - got it checked by my specialist VW garage and they poo pooed a lot of it and the bill came closer to £900. Car was still fine for years afterwards!

Do Seat's need to be serviced at a Seat dealership, or would VW or Skoda suffice dealership?

My nearest Seat dealership is 19 miles away, but I have both Skoda and VW dealerships that are only 2 miles away.

Yes it does. The car is owned by SEAT Finance/VWFS (UK) Ltd so they get to dictate where the servicing is done.

Yes, you should have been. Where Servicing & Maintenance is included as part of the contract they will only allow it to be on long life servicing.

Take the car back to the supplying dealership and ask them to change it.

If you own the car no. As long as it is serviced to the manufacturer's schedule, using genuine parts you can have the work done anywhere and not affect the warranty.

If it is on Contract Hire/Lease (or anything else that means it is owned by SEAT Finance/VWFS (UK) Ltd) then yes.

I have always been asked what service regime I want. I think some dealers are better than others, but as performance car I think it needs attended to once a year, and Have always chosen the annual. Any more than 10,000 miles on the same oil is not good.

Mine has 2 year/30,000 km intervals. I'm not leaving engine oil that long, I've changed it at 2000, and will do it yearly.
We don't have a SEAT dealer, so SEAT have arranged for the local VW franchise to do basic services. I'll be doing it myself, and getting a SEAT dealer to check the diagnostics when I'm near one.
