Cupra TDI 160 Tuning

Hi everyone, I'm fairly new to this forum as I've recently sold my S3 and picked up a lovely wee Ibiza Cupra PD160 to save some money on our sky high fuel bills.

Basically looking for some information on the best places to find tuning parts and information on these cars as there doesn't seem to be much out there for the little TDI.

My main locations when I had the S3 where like jbsautodesigns and awesome-gti ect

Any useful sites that anyone knows of for the diesel tuning would be very useful and greatly appreciated!

Darkside developments are diesel tuning specialists and they're stuff is brilliant. Forge Motorsport are also good as well as the likes of awesome gti, there's a good few Cupra tdi drivers on here like myself and they're great cars to mod. All the best with it mate :)

Thanks guys! Darkside Developments is pretty much exactly what I'm after.

Now I just need some diesel nuts to help me with the diesel side of tuning.. =) anyone?

Whats the best routes to go down for my little Cupra?

I Have a couple of friends, one with the 170 Passat and another with an A4 140. Recently they have talking about injector nozzles and EGR deletes..?

Anyone have any detailes knowlege on these subjects and have the time to explain a little...

Definitely check out Darkside Developments. If its worth having, they sell it.

Worth mentioning that sometimes its best to phone them. I've had times where I can't find what I'm looking for on their website.

EGR is echaust gas recirculation. Its a valve that allows a little of the dirty exhaust gas back into the intake. Helps with engine heating and emmissions. A delete is a pipe that does away with this. Not really a performance mod as such, but saves the inlet getting gunked up with carbon deposits.

Injectors are the same as petrol. Standard ones flow a certain amount, uprated flow more.

Basically to get advice, you need to decide how much power you want, and how much you;ve got to spend.

Thanks for the info! I've heard from a couple people that the PD160 doesnt have the EGR as its to early a model or something..?

Power wise, I'm not looking to go big turbo or anything just yet. Looking to reach around 230-240 BHP witch I think I should be able to manage on a standard turbo?

Does anyone know what the standard turbos are rated too?

What about cold air feeds.. I've heard a lot of good things about the PD160 intake but I just feel its a little small and feel there's a lot more breathing to be had.

And finally.. Is there a short shift kit that will fit the Cupra ? I've found a couple but really not sure if they'll fit/work!

Well as of intakes go a few people have made custom onces but the standard is a good size to be honest but I would serjest cutting out the restriction at the front of the intake where it mounts to the grill remove the two torque screws pull off the intake pipe and inside thy part half of the hole will be a solid plastic sheet cut out the plastic to make it one big hole refit. There is a huge arguement about air filters etc but people including my self fit the green stuff replacement filter but am doing away with that and putting a Jetex free flow cone on in two weeks a few of the tdi people have done this don't know where it will gain or not but will find out.

And as for short shifts there has not been an after market one made for our 6 speed tdi gear box as of yet one person on hear Called Dameogen made up a custom one with a guide on how to do it if u look in the search I'll find it but his was not on the Cupra 6 speed box it was on the petrol version but the idea should be the same it's one of them mods I have on my todo list

I hope this helps anything else just ask there's a lot of people on hear that know what there doing with the tdi engines

Cupra has EGR valve. Some of the early ones wont show a fault code when you remove it. Most of them will

You'll be lucky to achieve a real 210bhp on the standard turbo

Does anyone know what the standard turbos are rated too?

The standard induction system is good for over 300bhp. Anything you fit will purely be for noise or looks.

AFAIK there isn;t a short shift kit. I fitted a TT one to mine with a bit of modification, but I've heard other people say they couldn;t get it to fit.

Anything else you need to know

As for the egr delete pipe u said about earlier good thing to do as the egr valve just cloggs up ur intake with carbon but this mod will put ur engine management light on the dash but u can map this light out but there is a restriction gasket u can buy from seat part number 028131547B and fit it to the little pipe only costs something like £2 from david at sere on on this site ask him to get for ya.this gasket will keep the light off the dash but also majorly lower the amount of gas going into ur intake. Doing any of this won't really gain power as such but will keep ur engine running smoother so worth doing In my opinion aspecially the egr restricksion gasket.
