Hi,
New to the forums so don't bite my head off but can't find a post about it that is in any kind of detail. How easy is it to the CV joints on a pd130? Anyone got any tips?
Thanks

Hi,
Yesterday I swapped out a passenger side drive shaft (6Q0407271CE) for a used one off eBay, delivered for £25. My car is a 2006 PD130 FR. You'll probably be better off doing that than replacing the CV joint as it's a messy job dealing with grease and ball bearings.

I replaced the outer CV joint on the drivers side a couple of years ago with an aftermarket kit. If you go that route it'll require more time and patience.

What are you planning on doing, are you replacing the outer CV joint or the whole driveshaft?
I'll throw this your way to give you a rough idea what to expect if replacing the CV joint:

http://www.benplace.com/cv_joint_maintenance.htm

If you haven't got one of these you'll need this:
36mm 1/2 drive double deep metric impact socket bi hex
https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/36mm-1-2-Drive-Double-Deep-Metric-Impact-Socket-Bi-Hex-AT291/12016996355

So you can remove this (it's on really tight, breaker bar will come in handy):
Febi Bilstein wheel hub nut 30028 (6Q0 407 396 B)
https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Febi-Bilstein-Wheel-Hub-Nut-30028/9016998445

I've reused the hub nuts in the past and they haven't caused any issues, but be aware they are one use only because they have little locking tabs that break when the nut is undone.

Another must have is a M12 triple spline bit/socket for the 6 bolts that hold the inner CV joint to the gearbox output:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/740412-1...1307368?epid=10021631304&hash=item1cb2f249e8&

I'll leave this with you for now but I'll get back to you soon.
