dab arial

hey peps

just ordered a Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB54 and the in dash changer. Any one have expierence of fitting the dab arial in to an ibiza as ive now just realised that this might be a bit tricky!! oh by the way its a window mount one as could not justify 150 pounds for the new roof mount arial! and the amount of work to fit it.

I had the Blaupunkt window mount DAB on my Mk4. I think you can see it in the pic in my sig. Only issue was that it couldn't go in the middle as the wiper woul hit it so it had to be offset.

Just looked at the pic and you can't see it. It was basically at the left end of the SCN sticker just low enough down the glass to be vertical and clear the spoiler. Didn't look great but not too bad either and well worth it. DAB is superb in the car.

I stuck mine in the top left of the windscreen and ran the cable down the trim on the A-piller and then through the dash. I say I, but it was really a mate who I collared into doing it.

what did u earth the arial to? and where did u go through dash into center consual?
It's connected to the bare metal on the A-piller under the trim and to get it through the dash I just popped the end cover off. Believe it or not a stiff bit of wire helps to pull it through...

I got the interior glass mount with mine, and have placed it top left also with the wire going down the a-pillar. Nice and tidy... :)

I love it. Works a treat in london. Can get abit of reception loss in the sticks, but its fine 99.9% of the time. Good for the footy on saturdays with 5 live extra. oh and a certain brighton station :hide:

You literally just pop it off the same way as you would the fuse cover on the drivers side.

sorry to keep on but how do u remove the cover on the a piller?

Just push the arial wire in between the cloth roof liner and the plastic bit on the a pillar, and its hidden. takes about 10 mins to fit.

DIFT,

I've got the DAB54 with the interior glass mount ariel and I find the DAB rubbish, it keeps dropping out and breaking up all the time, I dont use DAB any more.
Are there any settings or tips you know of to increase the performance?
I've earthed the ariel by drilling a small hole behind the A pillar trim and the wire is stuck on in a straight line parallel to the A pillar in the top left of the screen.
I'm in West London so the reception should be good.

Thanks,
Rick.

Ive been up west london with mine, and mine was a full signal nearly all the time. What stations you trying to get? You sure there's power going to it? I cant believe it would be that bad. Mines possibly the worst setup and i have very very few probs, and only drops out about once every few months. Where about in west london are you?

I'm in Uxbridge, I'll have to get the voltmeter out at the weekend and check my connections. DAB was the whole point of buying the stereo and I never use it, I just thought its bad because I'm usually in built up areas.
The main stations like Radio 1 and 1extra arent too bad but all the others like Choice, Core, Galaxy never go past one bar on the reception indicator and 'no signal' always comes up.
Hopefully I can sort it out now.

Thanks.

Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but my interior arial, didnt come with a sticky block you use to stick the arila to the window with. So ive just used tape. (told you i have do a crap job). But maybe the sticky block i should have got with the pack lessens the signal reaching the arial???? dunno

Had probs instaling my arial so spliced into- line and using another wire i soldered to the a piller an a area of sanded paint free metel!! (Nearley as bad as the other dodgey instal!!) Also couldnt work out where to put live feed into so there is now power going to the arial!! I live out in the deapist darkist sticks of essex where dab is poor to say the least, have a few probs with comercial signal sometimes but bbc is no problem!

I installed a DAB54 into my MkIV Ibiza last week. I used this aerial:

http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_product.php?partno=HAL2

Its much cheaper than most combined FM/DAB aerials but it still does the job. It works fine, the reception is perfect.

You will need to run a new aerial lead and the following adaptor:

Obviously the roof lining needs to be removed to install this aerial, as it replaces the old aerial. Thankfully you don't need to drill any new holes, it fits in the old one.
