Dash lights... Fault or feature?

Hi.
Brought my first LCR last week, have noticed that the dash lights are always on whilst the key is in ignition even when side /headlight switch is off.
Always owned German cars and never normally this way? Usual only illuminate when headlights switched on.
Is this just a feature or so I have something faulty somewhere?

my cupra is the same dash illumination comes on as soon as key is in on position and stay on until key is removed

But you will find as the ambient light levels fall, the dash lights will fade as a reminder to put your headlights on

They all do due to it being red and white I guess. . So needs illuminating in daylight.
