As said above the lighting for the speedo and rev counter is going on and off when driving in daytime , not tried it at night yet , has anyone come across this , cheers

I believe there is a sensor that detects ambient lighting and adjusts the dials lighting accordingly. Something to do with forcing you to turn your headlights on when its getting dark so you can see your dials.

It’s normal - VW’s do the same (and probably Audi and Skoda too). As @Bendy has said, the sensor detects poor or fading light, so dims down the instrumentation lighting, prompting you to switch on your headlights. With headlights on, your instrumentation will be illuminated again.
Yep it’s a “dusk sensor” my GTD did it as well, great idea in general, except when you have the dial set to “Auto” you’d think it would disable the sensor and leave the dash lights lit
