Yep its cranking but not firing ?
got fuel not sure about spark...easy way to check? its like the ecu is not there...AA checked the engine management fuses and no power to them so said it was a relay 409....replaced and still no joy so managed to get a matched ECU, Cluster and transponder still no joy....think im gona have to bite the bullet and try and find a mobile VAG specialist that can come take a look!! Gutted right before xmas :(

you should be able to fix it your self, just take your time and think about it logically.
1. youve got fuel, you got enough fuel ie, good fuel pressure correct ?
2. bandit way of checking for a spark. take the plug out, stick it in the coil, earth the plug out on the block, head or whatever, a good earth point, get some one else to crank, you should see it spark. obviously dont do this around fuel/fuel vapour as your car not starting would be the least of your issues lol.
like said, if you got fuel, im guessing you havent got a spark.
if you havent got a spark, start checking for reasons why. not chucking parts at it.
not being harsh to some aa/break down boys, but only use them as a guide line, not gospell, especially in things like this.

makes scene just need to try and get it sorted ASAP.....nightmare not having the car working especially in this weather...... strange that the TCS light is flashing though and no EML light when you turn the ignition on?! sounds electrical? how hard is it to change the cam sensors?

Rightee ho, that makes a bit more sense.
So there are only a couple of possibilities i can think of -
Either the AA mans wrong about the relay number or
The power feeding the relay is missing (blown fuse / broken wire etc) check pins on relay for 12v or the signal voltage that opens the relay is not present / working...

It maybe a short somewhere in the wiring, causing the voltage to be pulled down.

I am home tommorrow, i will have a look on the wiring diagrams for ecu power supply.

i think the cam shaft position sensor is behind the cam belt cover, not 100% sure but dont bloody buy one lol
check for spark, im putting money on there not being one.
connecting vag com to the ecu has to be eachieved, again, need to check power to ecu for a start

I bought a seat workshop manual of ebay, a etka one.

Was about 12 quid. Halfords also sell haynes manuals for golfs mk4, the wiring is similar on some of the 1.8t.

no your right was only buying the relays as they are penny's not going to go OTT and buy sensors just trying to narrow it down got a multi-meter somewhere will dig it out and see....also will check for spark im guessing if no power to ECU then no spark!!

cheers guys keep the suggestions coming really appreciate your help

If the ECU is dead (no power) then they won't be any fuel coming out the injectors, or spark. The engine will turn over cos its on a seperate relay.

sorry to hear that. Did you try disconnecting the new sensor and still no joy? really wanted to know what happened so if I ever heard about this happening again I would know how to fix it.
