I’ve read a few guides to changing suspension on here, vw vortex and also you tube but still can’t tell if you need to remove the front axle nuts for certain. I’m looking at swapping the whole set up myself, but just don’t want to get stuck! Anyone know the best method for changing shocks and springs or got any advice?

It is possible but difficult to do without removing the,.

Biggest problem is getting the torque specs as there are a few variants online.

I’m not sure you will get a standard length shock in though, sure H&R ones are shorter.

Appreciate that, I think I’ll be removing them then! Does the golf mk5 have the exact same set up as that’s the only car I can find a definitive list of tool sizes needed?- I don’t want to start it and then find I’ve got the wrong size tools!

From memory there are two types of bolts. Both are stretch bolts and must be replaced.

Perfect, I’ll be replacing all those. Anyone know of the tools needed for the golf mk5 suspension change that vw vortex list are the exact same as the Leon? Will I be needing a 21mm and 22mm speciality tool for the strut which I seem to be only able to find in the US?

Thanks again, most helpful!

Final question as I can't seem to find the answer anywhere, I'll be replacing the top mounts as the car's done 91k but I'm not 100% sure which parts I need. I see some places are selling the mounting section and bearing, and other places selling a rubber (bush presumably). Do I need all 3 bits, or just the mount and bearing?
