Design flaws

I read in another thread that someone has a burn mark on the sound proofing under the bonnet. I have this too. The dealer has replaced the fabric with a new bit. It would seem the plastic clips that fasten it to the bonnet become detached and it just drops down onto the turbo. I have a nice black mark on top of the turbo too!

Looks like a major design flaw to me. Anyone else got this?

The other major design flaw (as documented in another post by me) is that fact that if your ECU packs up and you lose lighting and the gears/engine (as happened to me twice!) even the hazzard warning lights won't work.

Imagine driving along on a dual carriageway at 70 in the dark - the engine cuts out, and all your lights go out. You can't put the hazzards on because they don't work. How unsafe is that?! The hazzards do eventually work, but only after the ignition is turned off - ie: after you've come to a complete halt right in the middle of the fast lane.

This has got to be a huge oversight by someone - I think it needs raising with Seat.

One thing that i rekon is a design flaw is the inside door handles, you open the door with the release and push door open but youve no way to stop the door swinging right open, u reall need your left hand on the window frame to steady the door... minor in comparison but annoying none the less..

Wind screen wipers!! Scratched my paint on my first Ibiza!!

Don't remind me about that one.

On Sunday I decided the car needed a wash and we'd had a bad weekend so I thought I'll get the hand car wash guys to give it a quick once over. Forgot to put the wipers into service position, realised just as one of them was about to lift the wiper. After me screaming and scaring him, I told him not to lift them and explained why, his mate stood next to me as I said it. Walked away, turned round to see his mate with my drivers side wiper lifted vertically.
Walked over to the tw@t and asked which part of "DON'T LIFT THE WIPER" he didn't understand, just looked at me and carried on. Chipped about half an inch of paint off the bonnet, fortunately not gone down to the metal and not easily seen.

Last time I use one of those bloody places. [:@]

Another design flaw is the stupid height of the car (4x4 styling). Not a fault but spoils the look.

Convenience wipe.
Ok if your screen's still wet, but if it's a warm day the screenwash has gone from the windscreen and the convenience wipe just smears an otherwise perfectly clear windscreen.

The ledge at the top of the glovebox isn't big enough to store the standard issue manual/logbook pack in.
(it is handily jsut the right size to slot a tomtom into, but still, should be the manual)

The springyness of the sunvisor is too great so when flapping it back up, it makes an almighty bang noise as it hits the rooflining.

The boot lever doesn't always open the boot fully first time, quite often on the first lift it just puts it "on the latch" then you need to lift again to actually open the boot.

Was there not a fix for this problem about 14 months ago ?

Dunno, i thought the fix was for the boot lever staying up instead of springin back down>?

I raised this issue whilst the car was in for its first service, Garage agreed that it will get fixed under warranty. I received a phone call the other day from garage stating that the part is now on back order due to the large volume of customers having the same problem.

In fairness lots of manufacturers use this - BMW and Citroën to name two. Must be something to do with aerodynamics - some EU directive on fuel efficiency no doubt.

The paint job.

I find the slightest thing will damage the paint.

My car seems to be prone to stone chips at the moment, including the windscreen :( got a massive chip in top left side which i dont think can be repaired.

The stupid wiper when you clean the window and then few seconds later it wipes again.
When it's cold in the car, the cd player's surrounding gets loose even when you have A/C on and blowing the vent on top.
Vibrations
Creaking noises when going over speed bumps or even parked on a slight hill
iPod connection, disconnects or freezes
DSG is abit stupid sometimes
Chirp/squeaky noise from 1.4TSI
Boot lever sometimes doesn't open on first attempt

Turn ignition off and leave keys in. Tap wiper stalk down and wipers move to service position. Remove keys from ignition.

Hi Char

Best get the screen replaced :(. Unless the chip/crack is smaller than an 10p coin.

It will only take an pot hole and then you got an crack to deal with. This happened to me. Not good. Though, you can then make an claim to the local council, highways department! :)

Does your insurance policy cover windscreen repair/replacement? Usually, £70 ish excess for replacement. Highly recommend Auto Glass. They can fit anywhere you are and usually the same day.

My car has become an stone chip magnet also. I had chipsaway tidy up the worst of em. Very good service.

All the best

Andy
