Difference between 150hp and 184hp version of 2.0TDI

Anybody knows the difference between the 150hp and the 184hp version of the 2.0TDI engine available for the new Seat Leon?
Is the performance increase purely due to a software upgrade or is anything else also upgraded?
I have looked at various tuners' homepages, and they indicate more or less the same power increase for both engines - this tells me that there must be more than a software difference, but I could be wrong.

I am looking for an excuse to get the 184hp version over the 150hp version :)
I know there is a difference in equipment and etc. also. but still it would be nice if the 184hp version features more than a software mod under the bonnit :)

Thanks in advance

You mean "Difference between 170hp and 184hp version of 2.0TDI"

There is no 150 2.0 TDI that I know of.

As a CR170 owner I would like to know the differences too.

Well for some reason it is not available in the UK, I see, but it is in Denmark and Germany.
I am not allowed to post links before I have enough points, but try to visit for example the German site (seat dot de)

The 2.0TDI is now available in 150 and 184 hp version, but is it just software?

Oh, I see. The new MK3 Leon has a 2.0 150 and a 2.0 184 and you want to know the difference.

It will be either the turbo and therefore the map or just the map.

Same as the difference in the current 2.0 110, 2.0 120, 2.0 140 and 2.0 170 DTI.

Exactly what I want to know.

Is the 2.0 110, 2.0 120, 2.0 140 and 2.0 170 TDI's the same but with another map? If so, do you know why remapping them gives different end results?

for leon 1P we had 2.0 TDI 140 HP (BKD) and 2.0 TDI 170 HP (BMN - PPD) beside other engine codes. there were several "hardware" differences between the two engines.

BKD 140: GT1749V turbo. max power ~180-185 HP after remap
BMN 170: GT1749VC turbo, and different injectors. max power ~210-215 HP after remap. there were some with 220+ HP even here on this forum, but with excessive smoke.

I have gone through all these stages and swapped my stock BKD turbo with BMN turbo to gain more power.

i am interested as well if there are hardware difference between new 150 and 184 versions.

Most of the hardware differences are the injectors, the turbo and mapping. There are a lot of horror stories about 170hp engines, early injectors failing and chain snapping!

A 140 can be remapped to around 175 a 170 can be remapped to around 210 the limits are generally the fuel supply and amount of air the engine gets. Uprate these two items and you could theoretically see figures approaching 300bhp.

Getting back on this with some details. I was surprized to find out the code for 184 turbo - GTD1449VZ. It means the trend is to go smaller compared to the old diesel FR, but the generation is newer (GTD).
Should help in spooling faster.

I'm aware this is an old thread but thought this may help:

Turbo in 184hp 2.0L CR TDI engines (single turbo) engine code CUNA/CUPA:

Turbo no. Garrett 821866-0001 VAG no. 04L 253 010H
Turbo model: GTD1449VZ

however this doesn't appear in the current Garrett catalog

That sounds familiar... Isn't that the same turbo as the Abarth Punto Evo.

No, as the Abarth is a gasoline engine and the current Garrett VNT turbos can not stand the higher exhaust gas temperatures of a gasoline engine.

The Abarth turbo is a Garrett MGT1446Z which is a wastegate turbo - non VNT.
