about 2 or 3 months ago max my dipped headlights both went out in quick succession. I changed them both myself and they have worked fine since.

basically tonight I was driving my car, stopped to go into the house to get changed and when i came back out i started the car and both lights were not working.

does anyone have a rough idea what this could be or what things I could check to find the problem. I assume it is not the bulbs as it is too coincidental that both have went out at the same time.

I dont really want to take it to a garage if it an easy thing to fix. I thought it might have been a fuse but am i not correct in saying that fuses in a car usually control more than one thing, so if a fuse has blown other electrical parts should not be working too?

I dont really kno much about cars so any help would do

thanks

oh it is just the dipped headlights that are not working, side lights and full beam are fine :D

You are going to have to give a clue which car you have.

There are four separate fuses for left/right high/dipped beams. But it sounds most like either the headlight switch or the indicator stalk.

Have you checked current and voltage at the bulbs with a multimeter? Did you touch the glass part of the bulb with your fingers accidently?

Sometimes when 1 bulb goes the other does either straght away or just after, i'am no expert but think its a voltage thing it has happened to me a few times over the years. But a set of new bulbs shouldnt go after 2-3 months, perhaps you have just been unlucky.
