Bad news for me and i imagine others this year....

Initial documents stated only a removed DPF would be a reason for an MOT fail on cars this year.
Just seen another document today that states both DPF AND cat removals on a diesel will be a reason for a failure

I've got a 2.5" decat downpipe just now, but the Miltek one with the cat is mega expensive!

HI Mate ,

asked my local garage if this was the case , and said they have not been told to heavily enforce it ,

same as Cats on the diesels they can fail you for not having one and has been that way for a few years

however if its not excessivly loud and not obvious i,e smoking is nuts off . then the soot test doesnt pick this up -- never picked mine up for last 5 years with will see this week now when its due !

if your car has engine covers and under trays etc the mot'er will not activley search for your car or dpf

Hi mate

A cat missing on a diesel has never been a fail.
It'll be introduced as well as missing DPF as a fail from later this month

When all these anoucements came i wasn't fussed about DPF removal as mines came with a cat which got removed. But the latest changes will mean that a missing cat is now a fail as well.

They always had the smoke density test as well that you mentioned but as long as it wasn't smokey it wouldn't passed before, even with missing cat or DPF

Just waiting on EGR deletes to be a fail next :(

Seen this today

i think its a big shake up , the new mot'er or the jobsworths will stick to it like glue ,

but reckon most will still sail through

ive always kept my original pipework just incase it ever became a problem , and i also have an EGR delete which i never got round to fitting , but will also keep that when i get my ar$e in gear

the other thing which would not present a problem is the stealth EGR delete where they keep the egr part but mod internally by gutting the stuff out

guess you could always do this with dpfs and cats

as i understand it must be visible?
so if the internals are removed and its mapped out its a pass if it passes smoke test?

Yeah presence of DPF or cat will just be visual inspection.

Bit more of a pain for people running the Miltek downpipes.

The guy who made my exhaust system said he can weld a cat heatshield onto my downpipe so on a visual inspection it looks like the cat is still there.

I'm the same, i still have original exhaust if i need it but it's a bit of a pain.

Still ok to have it done for the MOT just now. Won't be enforced until 16th feb
