Looking to buy another Seat, but the mrs is intent on having "an auto" this time, but a quick research of double clutch boxes seems to have struck terror into my wallet. (service and repair costs)

So - what do you guys think ? Im looking at a 4/5 year old car.
Thanks

I have had a DSG Box on my 2014 Cupra 280 and no problems, they do need an oil and filter every three years.

check out this thread https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php?threads/cupra-300-dsg-vs-manual.444754/#post-4779290 for the latest cars.

Check out this thread https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php?threads/dsg-service-cost.435523/page-2#post-4779293 for a bit more info on service cost's

If you are into modding your car you can put a lot more power through the DSG than a stock manual (you will have to replace the clutch) and it does mean if you have Adaptive Cruise control its like having a driverless car that you can take over at any time.

There have been recalls on a pretty much annual basis for yet another fix.

I find they are great to drive, but would rather not own one especially outside the factory guarantee period.

Agreed the DSG Has had a bad press and a number of recalls.

But back to the point the op is after what DSG Gearbox have had recalls on them, and since having the fix applied are there now any open issues. Its a personal choice but i went from Manual to DSG and would never go back now.

There are a number of different DSG boxes in the VW Stable so its important we can distinguish between good and extra bad.

Without spending any time on the issue it looks like the 7 speed dry gearbox DQ200 that has the most issues, I certainly have not had a recall on my 6 speed DQ250, I also see a lot of issues on the 2008/9 models so again to answer the OP Question are these issues still prevalent on more modern cars (2013/15)

And lets face it car companies are always doing recalls to cars due to FAULTS.

The DQ200 is the more modern one, and the one that on SKODA forums has such a bad rep. It is for smaller engines and as such also has a pretty low torque limit (250Nm or 180lb/ft I think) so limited tuning on that one. The DQ250 can take 400Nm according to wiki.

Googling "DQ200 recalls" gets 14500 hits. DQ250 gets 9250. There's a lot of info out there about it.

The DQ200 is the one they did the big global recall on, the DQ250 seems to my untrained eye to be dependent on age and engine. There was a lot of noise about Diesels around 2008/9. So again what the op wants to know is when are the gearbox's safe / bad.
Me as i have said before I have 2014 Cupra, yes wiki says it can take 400nm but in reality its more like 550nm as that is what the stage three guys are pushing with no issues and they don't have a problem on the DQ250 Box at all (and they do tell you if the setup is a problem).

Number of hits on google means nothing without looking into the detail (eg is it VW, All cars, Skoda, Just the far east etc).
And then if you have had the recall the issue has been resolved (hopefully)

All I can tell you from my experience and the number of cars being sold with DSG across the VAG group, I do not think they are as bad as you think they are.

I would accept that you have to look after the gearbox (every three years oil change) but there is a lot of benefits to the gearbox.

At the end of the day this is a personal choice but I think the OP wants informed answers so he can work out the risk he faces.

I will close this thread from me buy saying I still think its the best auto box I have had and if you are into tuning your cars (and i am) the DSG is much better. All tuning requires you to look after the engine train if you want it to last.

Dq200 has no maintanance costs. On Dq250 you will have to pay fo oil and filter change every 60k km.
Also dq250 comes with bigger engine or with 4 drive.
I wait for a dq200 and i hope will be no more problems with it.
There are passed somme years since the release of 7 speed dsg dry clutch. Manny problems were solved until now.
