I am wondering, does it harm the gearbox, if I were to put the gearbox to neutral gear before coming to a full stop. For instance, if I am slowing down and I know that the traffic will be red for quite a while, can I change to neutral gear while the car is still slowing down? I do find it easier to come to a smooth stop when I do so, and I feels this prevents the needless downshifting of the gearbox back to gear 1.
Secondly, how do I stop smoothly with a DSG gearbox, I mean there is always a little jerk before the car comes to a complete stop, no matter how smoothly I try to do it. Compare this with my previous automatic car, if I time it right, if I were to release the brake pressure at the right moment just before the car fully stops, the front end will sort of unload from the spring and stops smoothly.
