I know there's already a LOT of pictures and info about this but these are my opinions based on a tyre kicking session today.

Firstly thanks to Euan from WhatCar and the SEAT UK people for a fun and interesting afternoon and for you garage freaks ..... well you could eat your food off the floor it's so clean!

Interior is as expected, top notch build quality, nothing rattles and nothing shakes - everything clicks or clunks as you'd expect and as far as I can tell - there's been no serious cost cutting going on there at all.

Boot is CAVERNOUS!!!!!

GLove box is NOT

Driving position is nice and straight, everything looks and feels nice and falls nicely to hand. Doors are a nice solid 'thunk' when you shut them, in fact it's just like being in an Audi and that's a good thing.

If you're going to carry 4 fully grown adults - make sure the ones who sit in the rear aren't 6' plus as there really isn't a lot of legroom if the driver and passenger put their seat back.

Under the bonnet there is no transverse lump

17032009025.jpg

Mmmm means Quattro is a possibility although as you can see below, changing the belts and lower engine mount would be a tight fit!

17032009026.jpg

Entry level diesel engines come with single SMIC only which vents right back into the engine bay

17032009027.jpg

Battery and cabin filter area is finally easy to get at due to the longer bonnet and engine layout change.

17032009023.jpg

Under the car, things are very tidy and very FLAT starting with the front splash guard

17032009036.jpg

What would be the drive shaft area for a 4x4 system that's not fitted means there is a HUGE space running under the car

Diesel comes with twin round pipes, petrol 2.0TSI will come with twin single pipes which i think suits the car much better. The hole left by the lack of this on the diesels means retro fitting will be easy as nothing is there in place of it.

Some pictures of the rear suspension setup

Front suspension is now a proper double wishbone arrangement.

from the outside you don't get any impression of just how pretty it is until you see it in perspective from close up.

Almost Mk1 Leon Cupra rear curve

Black magic - yes this still suffers from the same 'easy to mark' problem as the current range models do.

Overall I have to say i'm impressed, it looks sufficiently like the Audi it's based on to reassure you it came from a good pedigree yet looks sufficiently SEAT to remind you it's not an Audi. I could see myself owning one in a year or so but it would have to be the 2.0Tsi petrol :)

Also watch out for something called XDS or XDE - overheard someone nattering about it - should be out on the new Leon soon and is something like TCS/ESP rolled into an electronic diff to help get the power down :)

Crawling over the press cars, looking at how best to mod one... it's not even out yet! Excellent, keep up the good work :D

Does it look like a bitza, or does it "blend"?

The leather was lovely, really thick and a very nice quality in fact everything in there is a nice quality - i really don't think they're going to have a problem selling these which for me .... is good as they'll be on the second hand market in a years time for probably about £10k for a reasonable spec one.

The one i wanted to see is the one they haven't made yet which is the 2.0Tsi - and although heated seats aren't standard, just about everything else you'd want seems to be!

That car had the optional glovebox coolbox fitted (part of the Comfort & Convenience Pack). Without it, the glovebox goes a lot deeper! ;)

Would post up a picture but not allowed yet!

I'm going to go against you all I dont like it, It looks Ok from the A piller back but thats cos it looks more like the Audi, But the front just looks wrong, I'v not seen one in the flesh so I wont slate it just yet.
Atleast they did'nt use the dash they used in the Mk2 Leon.

I sadly have to agree. Was waiting for this model with some anticipation, but I'm not a fan of the looks. I agree the rear looks OK but I'm far from convinced by the front. Possibly looks better in black and the projector xenons on the that particular model help but it just doesn't look quite right to me.

Lancs.
On the surface I like the Exeo but I agree that the front styling isn't quite right. Having said that it looks a whole lot better than the Passat, Mondeo, Laguna, Accord etc etc. In fact better than anything but the top 3 mid size saloons (A4, 3 Series and C Class) and of course any Alfa.

i actually like it more now i have seen these pictures, still not sure i would choose it over the same audi without having gone round one in the flesh

Nice write up - thanks!

The more I see the more I like - still not 100% convinced on the styling but it's slowly growing on me, but for the spec and (hopefully) build quality it should be a hit, but unfortunatley badge snobbery will probably prevent it being so.
Still for those of us looking to buy second hand in 2 or 3 years that could be a good thing. Much like my current Toledo, imo a much overlooked car.
