Facelift ambient lighting on pre facelift?

Hi all,

Saw a post on Facebook earlier showing that the Facelift models have rgb door card lighting which can be changed in vcds.

I'm wondering if anybody knows if it's possible to retrofit the doorcards/led for the ambient lighting from a Facelift to a pre facelift for this purpose?

Cheers

On my FR Technology the colour change can be done using the centre display menu, no VCDS required.

That said, I tried a few colours and then went back to red, which matches the other lighting and is least distracting at night.

Yeah unfortunately as mine is a pre facelift I only have the red/white ambient and you can't pick which one to use without vcds.

I’ve had a look into it but it appears that the hardware and software has changed a lot. They used to exists as two lighting channels. But it appears they are now integrated in to a LIN bus.

Pre face lift they connect straight into the BCM. But face lift look to connect into the door module. Which is how vw and Skoda are wired in.

So in short no it’s not possible unless you can get a pinout for the door module.

Update to the above

The FL door card LED's are LIN controlled however they do not connect to the door module like first thought, they actually still connect to the BCM. However the PFL BCM
do not posses any LIN Channels, unlike the newer ones. So if you wish to do the above mod you will require a new BCM. And MIB2.

What if you have a normal door cards that have no led on them if i swap my door card to led door cards would i have the led light working?

Just to add a definitive answer here.

To fit RGB ambient lighting on a prefacelift Leon you require a facelift BCM. You will also require a facelift can gateway & of course the facelift door cards (or atleast the RGB

The problems start when you fit the facelift BCM. As the facelift LED headlight wiring and operation is so different to prefacelift, you must fit facelift LEDs and the associated modules/wiring to get rid of a lighting error which no amount of coding will get rid of.

Incase you're wondering, facelift LEDs require a new can gateway, new BCM, headlight range controller, new level sensor, a tonne of wiring & coding. Not a cheap or fast upgrade.
