First Serious Problem - Clutch!

Well, after almost 17 months of ownership, I've just experience my first "problem" with the Cupra!

Pulling into the underground car park at work, goes to put the clutch down, and BANG, gone! Flat to the floor!

I seriously hope it's just the clutch cable snapped and not the peddle box collapsed! I know when the peddle box went on the 1.4 it cost a fortune, but there were some early warning sign to like really creaky and really stiff! Had none of that this time!

I'm praying it's just the cable! If it's the peddle box I'll be pissed off. More so with myself for not getting it welded up since having it!

More likely

Isn't your clutch hydraulic?

Not sure TBH! I know the 1.4 suffered both issues. Peddle Box "collapsed", then about 6-12months later, cluch cable went!

Garage I took it to at the time said pedel box was a dealer repair only, they couldn't do it! But back then I wasn't "into" cars like I am now, and knew **** all about seats. Now I have a mate who owns and runs a garage, so will be getting RAC to tow it straight there and get him on the case!

hope it's as simple as the guide says!

Makes me wonder why I forked out £500+ all those years ago! Oh well, live and learn

IIRC it cost me about £75 to have it welded.

Mate owns a garage, and I'm detailing his new Mk4 Golf ready for show season, so hopefully will cost naff all! We agreed a free service, cambelt change and to weld the clutch before snapping. So maybe now is the time for him to honer his part of the deal, then in march, I correct his car!

1400 engine tho, so I think there's a cable -

Yeah, 1.4 was cable.... wasn't sure about cupra

Lord knows why I paid £500 to Autoworld about 4-5 years ago to fix the 1.4 peddle box. If only back then i knew what I know now

Sounds like the pedal, have a check and see if you can find the white clip thing anywhere because it may of flew off...

and zip ties are good for getting the spring back in.;)

Well, RAC guy arrived, first thing he said was because it's lowered and "after market" splitter (LCR) it would need "specialist equipment" to be towed.

But he had a look, and 3 jubilee clips put it together and he followed me all the way from Sheffield, to Chesterfield, and left me about 5 miles from the garage!

So, should be an easy fix for my mate. Whilst he has it, he'll service it, and do cambelt change etc :D

Like others have mentioned I will put money on the clutch pedal being at fault, piss poor welds on it from the factory. This happened to me a short while ago before xmas didnt cost a great deal to put right. :)

Glad I had mine done before it snapped and left me stranded somewhere. Let this be a warning to anyone else that hasn't had theirs done yet. It's more a matter of when than if it goes.
