FR Leon clutch too sensative compared to the Cupra???

Does anyone think the grab point on the clutch too sensitive on Leon FR??

Is the clutch the same in a 08 Leon FR to a 08 Leon Cupra??

I'm looking at a remap and exhaust done on my 08 Leon FR but I drove an 08 Cupra to see the difference in power. It does have more top end power but mine has more torque. The nicest difference was how smooth the power delivery was and how soft the clutch felt. So easy to get smooth gear changes and to pull away smooth in 1st gear.

I find with my fr that if I'm not concentrating I get a bump movement from a not so smooth transition clutch engagement and another bump from the turbo about 2300 rpm. It might sound pathetic but I do like a smooth transition. I hope the remap can sort out the turbo.
The car is a year and a half old and shouldn't be difficult to drive smoothly. I'm sure if someone else drove the car would agree that it's not easy to drive smoothly.

I've thought about if it's possible to change the clutch master cylinder for a smaller bore to push less fluid to the slave cylinder for a wider grab point or run a different size line but run the risk of not having full disengagement... I don't know if it will mess everything up. I just like the Cupra clutch so much more.

Does anyone else agree or does it sound like something isn't right with it?

Are you talking petrol or diesel? As the petrol Cupra has 20Nm more torque then the FR TFSi and 50Nm less than the diesel. If the derv then that has a slightly heavier duty clutch simply due to the extra torque and will make the biting point be more "snappy".

All torque does it make wheel spin more:p

Tell me about it...

My Mondeo is only a 130hp, 230nm 2ltr diesel and its shocking in the wet / weather we have now. The traction control system is rubbish though.

I'm hoping the system on the Leon (XDS?) is better.

Anyway, we digress...

Is the FR a petrol or diesel?

If its diesel then it will have a heavier clutch due to the additional torque as mentioned above.

If its petrol then its possible yours just has a heavier clutch action than other cars... it wouldnt be the first car thats different to others of the same make and model. Maybe worth a check at the dealers or where ever though.

Sorry I didn't specify.

I just assumed that people on here would already know what the FR is and a Cupra. I'm comparing the Cupra top of the range Leon with a 2.0L petrol engine that has 240 bhp / 220lbs of torque. My FR has a 2.0L diesel engine with 170bhp / 258lbs of torque.
The FR has slightly more torque but a lot less bhp so I thought they might run the same clutch. The Fr also has slightly smaller brakes and different suspension, I've got Koni fsd's on mine now. Much better. :D

I'm going to ask the question at the dealer but I already know what the answer will be..
I need to drive another FR to see if it's different.

The torque of the FR is nice, don't ever wheel spin in the dry 30mph plus..

People are well aware what an FR and Cupra are, it's just that there is a petrol and diesel FR!

Ahhh... Humble pie... I've never heard of a Leon FR with a petrol or a cupra with a diesel.. The only place I can find them now is on autotrader.

On the Mk2 Leon the Cupra is petrol only. The FR comes with a petrol and diesel engine.

A diesel will always have a heavier clutch than a petrol is most cases due to the torque the engine produces low down.

The Leon i demo'd didnt feel that heavy really but i have been driving a diesel for the past 3 years so i could just be used to it !

You are right though, to have any idea if your car is normal or not you would have to try another FR diesel to compare it.

Ok, thanks for that. No dealer is going to allow me to drive one as a comparison, only if I were to buy one.. I'll have a think what I can do to get a drive in one. If they drove it they would just tell me it's fine, "come back when it's broken".
