I am looking at getting some new tyres as one of my current slowly goes down and the rest are getting a bit worn these days.
I am most likely going to get Michelin CrossClimate+ but I really want to know is would changing the size from the standard 225/50/17 to 225/45/17 make much difference?
There is a vast price difference between the 2 and changing all 4 tyres will result in about a £100 difference simply by choosing the 225/45's

Have any other Freetrack owners changed to 45's?

thanks in advance

I agree the prices for the 50 are very steep , luckily for me the previous owner had fitted Goodyear 4seasons gen 1 as better ratings than gen 2. Found them to be a capable choice. When it's time, if cost effective, I'd consider buying some 18" wheels as the tyre prices also drop but I do like the freetrack originals.

Here's your answer from tacomaworld if using 225/45/17 , only accurate if speedo reads 100% true:

Speedo Reading Actual Speed
20 mph (32.19 km/h) 19.31 mph (31.08 km/h)
25 mph (40.23 km/h) 24.14 mph (38.86 km/h)
30 mph (48.28 km/h) 28.97 mph (46.63 km/h)
35 mph (56.33 km/h) 33.8 mph (54.4 km/h)
40 mph (64.37 km/h) 38.63 mph (62.17 km/h)
45 mph (72.42 km/h) 43.46 mph (69.94 km/h)
50 mph (80.47 km/h) 48.29 mph (77.71 km/h)
55 mph (88.51 km/h) 53.12 mph (85.48 km/h)
60 mph (96.56 km/h) 57.94 mph (93.25 km/h)
65 mph (104.61 km/h) 62.77 mph (101.02 km/h)

Had my cruise set today at 50 and gps was showing 48 , topped up to 52 to get a gps of 50mph.
Would be good if someone with 45's fitted gave some readings, as well as someone running on 18".

Changed my tyres today to CrossClimate+.
Goodyear 4seasons on the front had just started to perish along the sipes with 2mm of tread but I’d been eying prices for the last month. Was about to get another set of 4seasons as these had done 15k in the last year plus previous owners mileage on 2015 dot. The rears were still ok with 3mm left and no perishing.
Last minute I spotted kwikfit had a 10% off deal on cc+ so with a topcashback click I paid £112 per corner for 225/50/17. . . It’s about the best price I’d seen all year beating Costco by £2 a tyre.
Way too early to comment on them in depth but initial drive through the rain and deep puddles today seemed louder than with vectors as the water displacement was far superior and hitting the wheel well with gusto.
Update how they are once bedded in.

How has anyone else found them.
