Evening,

I have a service due soon and i'm just wondering if it's worth taking it to a SEAT garage with all the stories I hear about them...

I currently have full SEAT service history after confirming with SEAT Customer service.

Just wondering what people think if they were buying a car would that bother you if I got the car and didn't take it to SEAT lol I don't want to be ripped off and have issues which I could avoid and take my own stuff into my local garage to do for me.

Ideas/thoughts welcome

Cheers

Wouldn't bother me as long as the book is completed and stamped correctly.

I.e not just signed with some random blokes initials ..... Stamped by a garage you can look into for reviews etc.

What a toughie. I do my own servicing. Which I realise may take away from the value of the car, but I know it's been done right and using the best parts (which I keep the receipt for). But £240 for an oil / filter change, possibly air filter, pollen filter if they can be bothered and shining a torch around.

Don't get me wrong, it's worth it if your not planning on doing the torch shining yourself. The only thing I will say. I keep all the receipts for parts I use, etc. So long as someone had all of that, I'd be happy no matter who did it. However, I've seen occurences of "things going wrong" with the car and SEAT UK will only help, or contribute towards if it has the Seat (not Indy) service history.

Well I got my car without a service book but a print out from seat with all the services etc and dates... I've confirmed all these and I'll get a new book sorted from my next one. So I'm starting from scratch in terms of stamps etc..

I think I'll have to try and get to a SEAT garage for the first one and see how it goes...

I hope the people that make the car are the ones to screw it up...

If I did my own servicing I'd be worried that everything I did would fall off as soon as I put my foot down haha

Yeah, the number of times I've woken up around 3am and thought :censored: did I tighten that bolt up properly. Or the best is when I finish a job and can see a socket or spanner is missing. Take it all back apart again and realise it was in my Batman utility belt all along.

Before you take it into Seat, I would check exactly what they should be doing (pollen filter, air filter, plugs, etc). And then asking for it either ticked in the book or written on the invoice. Not sure I'd trust eg taking my own expensive oil along for them to use.

That's the issue I think, I would constantly be thinking if I did everything correctly lol I think I would loose it slightly....

Batman utility belt... does it have the batman ninja star things shaped like bats?

Well I have changed the pollen filter and hoping with a little SEAT forum help I can get my engine cover off then I can sort the Air filter at the same time lol I need to get hold of a new service book... will SEAT back date the book if i take it in as i have the email from the CS suggesting I have full SH with them? Or am I stuck with an email printout lol

My mind usually eases after a couple of weeks of nothing smoking, burning or falling off. So that's good.

Everyone laughs at me cause it has about 8 or so compartments. It has a torch, pliers, 10mm spanner, 1/4" drive ratchet, electrical tape, stanley knife. All of the stuff you can never find when you need it, and never really need.

You should just get an induction kit! You'll never struggle to service anything after that!

Hmmm, can't see them going back and stamping / filling it all in. But I'd just staple the sheet into the book.

I'm not sure my brain would last a couple of weeks lol how do you know if something fell off by the way haha

I really like the idea of keeping the car as standard as possible as I like the look of the engine cover and currently 265bhp is enough for me and any more would probably kill the other half when she takes it out lol I have to remind her it's not a toy and it will kill you just like a pet bear.

I do like a good staple lol

I have a box "bits that have fallen off my car". Some I've even figured out what they came off. My latest is a small(ish) crush washer. It was covered both sides in oil. So suggests it came off something that was well lubricated.

Oh wow, I don't let anyone drive my car! LOL. Plus they'd probably drive it straight through a wall or something. I can never have enough power!

You should take a picture of the items in the box and see if people can find it's location haha yeah the other half has the same engine I had in the Focus an almighty 125bhp and rubbish brakes so when ever she gets in and uses the brakes she goes through the windscreen which is funny.

She drove my previous FR TFSI quite well and her fiesta isn't good for 5 people so it's there if she needs it. I don't think she would come home if she did something to it.

When buying a car I don’t care where it’s been serviced as long as it’s been done. Dealership history is a positive but it wouldn’t stop me if it’s independent.

As for my own car I plan to run it into the ground so I’m doing my own servicing whilst keeping receipts should I decide to sell it at some point. If I can prove that it’s been looked after and can show evidence then I don’t think service history should matter too much.

 Exactly what I'm doing. Saving some cash doing it myself, using only the best parts. When I come to trade it, they won't offer me anywhere near what it's worth anyway. The day I bought it, I'd already lost £3k on it.

Indeed, OEM or better....although I did cheap out when it came to buying a CAM sensor and the car still has a right mix of tyres from the previous owner. I plan to put some toyo proxies on it once the tyres are all low.

I have never used a main dealer except when i had the company cars. get a better service and people who know what they are doing from local vag specialist and local village garage for general stuff as he likes my car as much as i do. the mods will sell my car not the service history.
