The main benefits of vinyl wrapping are that it's quicker and can be removed again to return the part to standard finish. However, if you vinyl wrap the standard matt finish bumper trim panel you'll get the pattern on the plastic visible through the vinyl which means you won't get a perfectly smooth finish.

You'll need to smooth the panel one way or another to get a good finish and that obviously means losing the original finish, which swings the argument towards painting as you won't be able to restore the part to it's original finish after that anyway.

There is a thread on here from a little while ago where someone did wrap the bumper trim panel and from memory it didn't look great. The pattern in plastic was quite noticeable through the wrap. I'll have a search and see if I can find it...

Yeah I figured that could be the case + I think you get a much better finish from a proper spray job. I imagine would be somewhere around £100? if you did the prep yourself. I don't suppose many people have gone DIY with gloss black aerosol cans as it's nigh on impossible to get a good gloss finish with them
