This has been on my to do for a while, but I'm lazy and I left it too long and the weather has obviously turned. Today, the weather was crying out for it. If I didn't get round to this today, it was going to be easter or something!

Anyway, immediately after collecting the car, I installed a Pioneer SPH-DA120 for her. This is documented here --> http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showpost.php?p=4676521&postcount=8, during the installation, I knew a camera was on the cards, as I did exactly the same in my car. Having learnt from the install in my car, I knew to fill all the ports in the Pioneer whilst installing, so that I didn't have to remove the unit down the line to add extra cables etc.

So, this is how I went about installing the reverse camera to her MK5/6J. First of all, this is the camera I used, a cheap, generic China special... Set me back about £10 from AliExpress, granted the exchange rate might not be in your favour right now, but still, it's not going to break the bank - and it does it's job!

I removed the rear passenger light, in order to identify the 12v and Ground. I understand this is fairly standard, but dont hold me to it. Do your own checks. Anyway, in my case, Green/Blue was 12v+ and Brown was GND.

Having identified the 12v+ and GND, I then set about running the camera cable. As mentioned, I'd already hooked this up to the headunit, I'd just left the cable coiled up out of sight in the passenger footwell, so it was just a case of getting it to the rear end. I ran the cable under the plastic trim, front to back. This is roughly highlighted below.

Here you can see the cable (circled) and the continuation of the path.

Removing these 2 plastic screws with a flat headed driver makes it a lot easier to get in behind and go up and over the rear wheel arch.

With the carpet clear and the light removed you have access to everything you need. It's worth tapping into the 12v+ and GND from the reverse light wiring at this stage, so you only have to run the wiring one time! With the additional wires you've hooked up for power, tape these to the Video cable and feed them through the grommet.

I then unscrewed the existing plate light, and popped out the actual holder. It was only at this stage did I check the Camera would fit, probably should have done this first, but hey ho, it DID fit, so all was well. With the original holder and bulb out of the way, I fed a feeder cable through.

I removed the 3 T20 screws on the black fender under the exhaust and dropped it down. I was able to reach in and pull the feeder cable I dropped through the bulb holder. Whilst not visible in the picture, the video and taped up power cable was also within reach, so I pulled this down through the gap in the fender.

I then taped the video and power to the feeder cable, and simply pulled it back (away from the car) from the bit left dangling out of the bulb holder.

With the video cable, power (12v+ and GND) pulled through the bulb holder, there was plenty of length giving me loads of room to do the soldering of wires etc with plenty of comfort. It was simply a case of connecting the 12v+ you ran from the reverse light, to the female DC barrel supplied with the camera and also the red tail cable that runs down from the Headunit (this triggers the screen to switch to camera when you put the car in reverse). And wire the GND to the black wire from the DC barrel.

Installation is loosely described here.

25635868220_fed1ccd326_b.jpg

The camera comes with an SMD LED and two more wires to connect up. I joined the Red of the LED to the Grey wire from the original bulb holder (+) and the black of the LED to the Brown (GND). It was then a case of putting everything back in its rightful place.

...and testing it out.

Very nice guide here, was looking to do this on mine, little different as i have an ST. I do have a couple of questions.

1. Did you need to connect the plate light to a can bus resistor, or does it work fine without one, no errors etc??
2. How did you connect the camera to the reverse light, was there enough power and does that interfere with the bulb warning??

No resistors used, it either has one built in (most do these days), or is exempt from monitoring. Or it simply hasn't triggered the warning yet!

12v+ and GND, from reverse wiring (GREEN/BLUE & BROWN) to power the camera.

Cheers for that, now to figure out how to run it to my boot lid.

In my car I went up the A pillar and over the headlining, out through the original grommet that carries the light cluster wiring etc... I thought I was going to have to do the same again on the Ibiza, until I realised the light clusters weren't in the boot door!

Have a look and plan your route, ultimately you only take video (with reverse detection wire) from front to back. So if you DO need resistors etc, all that can occur in the boot.

This is how I did my ix35 (over the roof), see if it gives you any ideas; http://hyundaiclub.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3962

I ordered a similar camera and it has a yellow video plug and red wire at the head unit end along with the red/black wires in the rear. I wired the rear red/black to the reversing light wires as per your guide. I also stripped the video plug off the end, exposing a yellow and black wire, and plugged these yellow/black wires into the quadlock of the headunit. But I'm not clear what to wire the red wire at head unit end to?

Also do you know the VAG-COM coding for this?

You're on your own here I'm afraid. I simply connected the yellow video plug into my headunit. You'd need to speak to someone familiar with the stock Seat headunit/wiring.

Does the cable which runs to the camera from the HU have a yellow video plug and a red wire at both ends??

If so the red wire is to connect to the reverse light so if your car cannot detect if the reverse gear has been selected. This is connected to the toggle on the HU so it know when reverse has been selected. You shouldn't need this as it is passed on the can bus, you will need it however if your HU cannot understand the can bus.

The stock HU, except for the new touch screen in the 2016 Ibiza, cannot receive any video input and you will need an aftermarket one.

I think these are the address and values.

1.) Address 76:5Q0 919 294 F recoded (Long Coding) 0071151011

2.) Address 5F:5F0 035 858 A recoded (Long Coding) 04731001FF0A000021111101000800002F0101100100010046

Yes I have the 2016 Ibiza with touchscreen. Yep in the boot I hooked red/black up to the reverse light power and ground, I was thinking this was just to power the camera didn't consider the need to tell the HU we are in reverse.

So at the time I assumed I would only need the video plug at HU end so once I removed the plug I used the yellow(video plug pin) and black (video plug shroud) into the HU. But thinking about it now I probably should have used yellow and red into HU, which would be video and reverse power. Whereas the black that was shroud of video plug is likely just another ground.

Thanks for the coding will give it a go and let people know how I get on. Hopefully this will help any stock HU owners!

Looking at the stock setup, I think the yellow (video) wire goes in pin 6 and earth (plug shroud) wire goes in pin 12 of the blue quad lock plug.

The cable is a generic one used on most, I don't think you need to connect the red one at the HU end as the reverse signal should be on the CANBUS.

Give it all a go and message how it goes. This will be very good for new ST owners as I don't think a reverse camera was an option on the ST.

Yes that is exactly as I've wired it up. Sadly I'm unable to read address "76 - Park assist" or "10 - Park/Steer assist" which was where I thought to start.

Not available - I don't have rear parking sensors or anything so I suppose that is why.

Finally installed mine in my ST, went the wireless route.

Camera

Wireless Kitt

On a side note, it is not a perfect fit as there is a piece of metal behind the light that pushes it slightly, this camera should fit better.

Thought I would add a few pics for those who are curious

Annoying clips are in red, this is to remove the boot lid trim and get to everything.

Added my own connectors to the reverse light and plate light so I can easily remove it
